There will be more than thirty superb working model railway layouts with a well balanced coverage of scales, gauges and prototypes. An excellent selection of specialist and general trades will be present together with demonstrations, static exhibits and society stands. Up to two children, aged 5 to 15 will be admitted FREE with each paying adult. Charge for additional or unaccompanied children is £4. Special Advanced Ticket Offer - £8 per Adult - £2 off each Adult ticket if purchased in advance on or before 8th January 2020. Advance bookings can be made by telephoning 01438 363200 or in person at the venue's Box Office. Alternatively go online at: www.gordon-craig.co.uk where advance £8 Adult tickets and £4 Child tickets can be purchased. There is no booking fee. A charge of £1 will be made per transaction if tickets are to be posted. The venue is situated only a couple of hundred yards from Stevenage's main shopping area and offers a town centre location with the benefits of good transport links and car parking. For those coming by public transport the railway station is literally just over the road and is joined to the venue and town centre by a pedestrian bridge. Services are mainly operated by Great Northern, lying on the route from London King's Cross to Peterborough & Cambridge. The station is also served by trains between London and Letchworth via Hertford North. The bus station is also close, less than a minutes walk away. For those travelling by car the venue is on the dual carriageway A602 which is easily accessed by two junctions on the A1(M), one from the north and one from the south, with an estimated 5 minute travelling time from the motorway. The Leisure Centre is to the east of the railway station and has several ground level car parks. A little further away are the town's multi-storeys. The rates vary for the car parks shown with the most expensive ones being the two railway station ones - marked as RS and RN. If you wish to keep your car parking charges to a minimum it is best to visit on the Sunday where the rate for all the car parks - except for the railway station ones - is currently £2.00 for all day. Note the one marked P is reserved for exhibitors on the Saturday and Sunday. Please note the very large car parks to the west of the station - off the plan to the left - are for the Leisure Park, not the Leisure Centre, and although free for users of the Park will attract a PCN with a charge of £100 should you leave your car there and walk over the footbridge to the station and the exhibition venue. It certainly is a great show and the location cannot be faulted, just be careful where you park - see post #1 above. The large scale (1:20.3 / 45mm gauge) narrow gauge layout 'Orange River and Portland' RR will be there, which means we have a work day on Jan2nd. Geoff Endacott Hi Geoff, I thought so when making the original posting which is why the entry has it as being "exhibited" by the N Gauge Society. The layout list is as given to me by the Exhibition Manager and as such has the layout forming part of the N Gauge Society stand. Unfortunately the information given makes no mention of the Bentley MRG but does have the layout as being ex Grahame Hedges - the original builder. The walk from St. Alban's station to the Alban Arena was my January exercise, it seems like cheating now the venue is right next to the station! I've seen the wardens ticketing cars on numerous occasions though I've never seen them in their little hut. Invicta Informant Posted January 11, 2020 Share Posted January 11, 2020 Another really good (and well attended) exhibition. Well done to the CMRA for their efforts. This show was a good opportunity to see some layouts, Burntisland 1883 and Johnstown Road in particular, I did not get a good look at when they were exhibited at Ally Pally. Getting to Stevenage from North West Kent/South East London was a doddle by Thameslink, with a single change at Farringdon there and back. Stevenage lost at home to Port Vale one-nil, and are bottom of the Football League a point behind Morecambe.
