TrainzBrainz23
Why is there a X in some reporting marks, for example METX or TRCX? When was this introduced?
LNRR
The 'X' indicates the car is privately owned rather than owned by a railroad. 1
pH
As LNRR says. See here: https://trn.trains.com/railroads/abcs-of-railroading/2006/05/understanding-railroad-reporting-marks and the section on North America here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reporting_mark Edited December 17, 2019 by pH
dave1905
The X started to be used after about 1910. Union Tank Car Line went from UTL to UTLX. Chessie System became CSX, but since it was a railroad, had to use CSXT as its reporting marks.
