ElectroSoldier
Can somebody help, Im wondering if anybody has used Railmatch acrylics and if so have you thinned them with something other than Railmatch acrylic thinners? If so which ones did you find success with?
RMweb Premium Foden Posted December 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 20, 2019 I use Tamiya X-20A personally and it goes lovely through the airbrush with a drop of Vallejo dry retarder.
Paul80
Or the much cheaper rubbing alcohol with a couple of drops of artist retarder. Paul Edited December 20, 2019 by Paul80
kandc_au
If you search youtube you will find some very good ideas for both cleaning and thinning acrylics there! Used the methods there and worked very well.
RobjUK
I've used deionised water in a pinch. It is a water-miscible paint and it seemed to work OK, though it was only a first coat over the primer & not a topcoat. I do have the proper thinner but I was trying to get a coat on in a rush while the weather was reasonable and could not be bothered to dig the proper stuff out & the water was to hand. My airbrush setup runs on a large compressor in an unheated garage, which is rather restricting at this time of year.
ElectroSoldier
Not really looking for cheap alternatives. I was just wondering if anybody had used something other than Railmatch thinner to thin Railmatch paints. Vallejo thinners for example.
Feoffee2
I have always used humbrol or vallejo acrylic thinners and not had a problem. Always sprayed well. Cheers

I have been successfully using Ultimate Acrylic Thinners for Humbrol, Vallejo, AK Interactive, Lifecolor, Com-Art and Tamiya acrylic paints at weathering workshops for several years. I see no reason why they would not work with Railmatch, and I would think that Vallejo thinners would work with Railmatch paints as well. I haven't tried these last two combinations, so can't recommend them, but Ultimate is OK. https://www.umpretail.com/products/ultimate-airbrush-thinner
ElectroSoldier
I have RailMatch Tinners, Citadel, Tamiya and Vallejo thinners. Im more wondering if anybody has had any problems. For instance I was told not to try Mr Colour Leveling thinners because it turns Vallejo paints into a gooey mess.
Paul80
From memory any thinner based on alcohol or spirit does that to Vallejo paints, they realy are a water based acrylic, some like Tamiya and Mr Color are Alcohol based Acrylics.
