A bit of additional railway interest is that, in the third photo, the long black building in the distance is (I'm pretty sure) Charles Roberts wagon builders.  Interesting shots, I never saw it like that.

Very sad this went from a very busy scene to total decay in only a year.  I didn't realise this closed before the rest last of the system in 69

Errr what boat trains?

I've no idea if it was a regular service but AFAIK any passenger trains connecting with a ship were pulled to and from the exchange sidings into the docks complex by a PBA shunter

In this film (1930s not 1960s) you see a couple of PBA 0-6-0STs on this work including what may well be a Peckett FA at 1:37 (I believe the two in the photos above are FAs).

One of very few metre gauge systems in the UK.  On my to-do list to explore the area and try to find any traces of the system.

I didn't even know that such things existed in the UK until I came across these pictures. I've heard of narrow gauge and standard gauge, but not medium gauge!

Hunslet Engine Co. Works No.1094 of 1912.

NCB No.S.101 at Water Haig Colliery circa 1960s.

I bought a few photos from Paul A of this parish and have been scanning them in, tweaking colours and light and removing dust/scratches/hair.

R&W Hawthorn Works No.2009 of 1884.

Originally served the Tredegar Wharf Company (Newport, Wales) which resold her to rolling stock manufacturer Pickering through locomotive dealer A.R. Adams & Son in 1937.  Moved to the Tanfield Railway in 1979 after withdrawal, she has been stored at Marley Hill with other (mostly ex-industrial) locomotives and rolling stock. (From here)

Another scanned and cleaned up photo.

RSH-built (to a Hawthorn Leslie design) No.7298 of 1946 'Progress', likely at Cadley Hill Colliery in the 1960s or 1970s.2110285373_RobertStephensonHawthornWorksNo7298ProgressCadleyHillColliery1.jpg.26a0f1e26ccf7ca862556dd93c9741da.jpg

There were various builders of these, including Lansing-Bagnall. They were used in conjunction with small trailers to move product about in factories. When I was involved in a project at the former 'Kaleidoscope' warehouses in Banbury, we used one to bring pots of tea from the canteen to our work-site. The one we used was battery-powered; another sort, built by Lister IIRC, used a small petrol engine.
