RMweb Gold TravisM Posted December 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 25, 2019 I was pleased to receive a Hornby Wessex Trains Class 153 today but can I ask were they all repainted into First Great Western fairly quickly after the merger or stay the same for awhile? I remember four were stored at Eastleigh not long after FGW and Wessex Trains merged including a red one. Did these four go to and used by their new TOC’s in their previous livery as I seem to remember a picture of one going to East Midlands Trains and photographed on Eastcroft depot in Wessex black scheme, but I could be mistaken. great central
We had several ex Wessex 153s, a couple were painted in stagecoach livery for the launch of the EMT franchise, I seem to recall 153355 being one of them. 153308 was black I think and we also inherited a red one if memory serves. Not long after the start of the franchise I arrived for work one Sunday morning, there was a line of units down one of the middle roads at Nottingham with no two in the same livery. It's starting to get a bit like that now again, with EMR branded stagecoach livery, Branded plain white or blue, unbranded blue and white units with different coloured doors and the soon to be added ex GA units with a purple section on each end. Then there was the EMR branded ScotRail unit we had on hire for a few weeks.
RMweb Premium Davexoc Posted December 26, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 26, 2019 Both 153302 and 308 ran in black around Lincolnshire, there was also an orange one 153321, but I think that came from Wales. Saturdays at Sleaford could produce 153, 156 and 158s in over eight different liveries in just four trains at one point.... 302 in Weesex with 374 and 355 in the then new EMT livery at Sleaford 308 in Wessex with 311 in provincial and 319 in Arriva with 376 in Central, also at Sleaford Hastily grabbed phone image of 321 at Lincoln in Wales and Borders? Note that 302 ran with EMT branding and 308 without at that time. 1
