TRAILRAGE
Hello all. My godson was down at Southcote Junction this morning to see the ROG 57312 go through but as he was leaving maybe around 11:20 am he got a glimpse of what he thought was a pair of DRS class 68 on either of the Blue KUA/IQA Bogie flask wagon/s heading towards Baisingstoke. He had a look on Real Time Trains but nothing there. Other than Devonport Dockyard would there be anywhere else they would be heading? I was thinking Arlington Eastleigh works maybe for repair work but that's just a guess. Also due to the nature of the materials carried I assume that departure times and routes are not generally published. Anyone out there with any info on this as it is the first time he has seen a flask Train. Much appreciated for any help Cheers Trailrage
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 3, 2020 Can't see anything - I'll check emails tomorrow. Flask trains are normally shown but a Devonport might not be, sometimes VSTP workings also escape the public real time systems.
jpendle
If it were destined to be a loaded return, to Sellafield, I would have thought that there would have been one or two MK2A BSO's as well for the military escort. Also, what's a VSTP working? Regards, John P
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted January 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 4, 2020 VSTP is "Very short term plan" (or path) Put into the system at short notice for a nominally unplanned move or unexpected variation due to a failure. Usually at less than 48 hours notice. 1
Steadfast
Wouldn't explain the potential 68, but could the potential flask be a Balfour Beatty NTC machine? These get tripped on the engineers trips and there's a Hinksey - Eastleigh around that time and one of the NTCs did Eastleigh- Westbury in the afternoon Jo
pb_devon
Unlikely to be a Devonport working on that route, too long a way round!
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 5, 2020 Can't find anything about a movement, loco or otherwise around that area at that time I'm afraid.

And the schedule is created by the Network Rail Route Control for the originating point of the train (even if subsequently going hundreds of miles through other Routes !), rather than Train Planning. TRAILRAGE
Thank for taking the time to look everyone. I's much appreciated. Have to admit at a quick glance from across a field it would look similar. Cheers Trailrage
