A very interesting ride but I would not have wanted to go the whole way from Liverpool to Manchester. In 1989 i made a short ride during 150 years celebrations of the Dutch railways, a replica the first train in the Netherlands caulled the "Arend" from 1839. They had laid a circle of track with a sort of tunnel and everyone who would try could make a free ride. I was in the second class coach the yellow one on the photo, open but with roof, i made the ride , but it was really deafening, strengthens by the enclosure of the roof, with all the squeaky noises and horrible in the tunnel, i was nearly deaf when i got out

Probably do it in a day if you really needed to. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chat_Moss You could go by canal but that took days. L&M took less than a couple of hours. Not much worse than it is now as testified by those who have ever used Northern.... 3

Very soon after the opening there was a newspaper report about a Manchester businessman who had been to Liverpool twice on the same day. Presumably first class, the second time at least!

On that occasion two of hit our heads on the cab roof and one of the other's leg went down the gap between the engine and tender as the fall plate was bounced up and stayed up, both sets of cab doors were bent out of shape and the tender coal doors burst open causing an avalanche of coal. When we arrived at Crewe two of the three lamps were missing, one oil and the head light. Gibbo.

Pre Grouping fan
Mine has just arrived. Direct from Hornby. Comes in a standard wagon sized box with Icecube packaging and a little bag with a long and short version of the chain coupling included. There's no seats moulded in the body just the partitions. It feels like it's all plastic as it weighs only 11.7 grams. Few pictures for those interested: 10 1
aaron3820
It would've been good if Hornby had decided to make some more of the coaches, with (at a guess) around 3,000 Rocket sets floating about having just 1,000 coaches seems a bit odd. Surely they could've sold 1500 or even a few more at a push? 1

Jason I've just remembered it was the Second Class coach Rails was advertising had benches in the compartments and this being 3rd class no such "luxury" was provided clearly. Have just put together a quick video showing off some close ups and a little bit of them running behind Rocket, just in case anyone wants to see them in action. Genuine "cattle class", standing room only... I thought they might have bench seats, so without them it'll be easier to populate them with tourists! They look very smart. 1
Ribird
I'm not him, but know him, but LNER_steam on Instagram put together some nice running shots and images of these coaches. https://www.instagram.com/lner_steam/?hl=en
aaron3820
How the heck has Olivias been allowed to get away with this? 106 sold at the time I viewed the listing and they had approx 20 more for sale across the pristine and weathered options...
