RMweb Gold queensquare Posted May 5, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) Basically what Simon said. We hung on as long as possible but it became increasingly clear that it just wasn't going to be happen this year. This is a great shame as we were all looking forward to Larkrail returning after a couple of years hiatus. Over the years Larkrail/Camrail has evolved into a unique event in the calendar, friendly, quirky and informal but attracting some of the best modellers in the area for an annual jamboree of trains, cake and jolly banter. We will be back next year, same time, same place and hopefully with as many of those who had agreed to come this year as we can drag along. In the meantime we thought it might be fun to post a few pictures of past gatherings to cheer us all up in these strange times. Simon and I will be trawling through the archives to dig out some gems from Larkrail past but if anyone else has memories or pictures please post them here. I'll start the ball rolling with a couple of snaps of handsome young chaps from the Bradford-on-Avon days around 2004/5 - Simon is being indoctrinated into the world of Gauge one and I'm whittling away at something 2mm as usual. Whatever happened to those fine young fellows. Jerry and Simon Edited May 5, 2020 by queensquare 8
298
Totally understandable under the current situation but still disappointed not to be able to see Matt's Cuban layout. Let's hope 2021 can go ahead as booked....

RMweb Gold Not Jeremy Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 A quick break from racking and packing... Here is the 2016 show, Iain Rice, Mike Romans (Stationmaster) and Justin Edwards around Trerice. More dodgier shots to come, anyone else got any good ones of CamLarkRail through the years?

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 I'll leave it to others to put names to faces, I do know most of them (!), but there are a lot of images to get through and I've got to go and make the tea soon! RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 CamRail 2008 (Bradford-on-Avon) The first and (so far) only ever exhibition appearance of my P4 layout 'Callow Lane', John F (Re6/6) at the controls, as Paul H (Kempenfelt) looks on: I think he's taller than his Dad now!

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) CamRail 2009 (Bradford-on-Avon) Bananas can be very popular, when sold with the correct sales technique. Here we see Alex S (Stumpytrain) and John F (Re6/6) demonstrating how pleased they were to have invested in such worthy fruit: Steve 'Cookie' Cook's wonderful Gauge 1 diorama: All ages catered for here! The number of times that Gerry Beale appears behind the bookstand over the years, you begin to realise what a good egg he is (unless Not Jeremy has some strange power over him!): The ever popular Bishopsmead crew: 'Horselunges' was one of the star attractions for me that year: Edited May 5, 2020 by Captain Kernow 4 1

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 CamRail 2012 (Bradford-on-Avon) This time, I seem to have taken more photos, here's a selection. Gordon Gravett inspecting Chris Nevard's latest creation: I think that's 'Valentia Harbour' in the foreground by Andy Cundick (he with the bushier of the beards behind the layout), being watched by Adam of this parish and also Peter & Ginny Barnfield: Tim Venton seems to have spotted the camera, even if Robin Gay hasn't (yet): That's better, woken up now. The layout is 'Nottingham Goods' (P4): And, as so rightly pointed out by Robin W (Barrowroad) just now, here's Kempenfelt once again! Simon certainly seems to have crammed 'em in that year: And here's the jolly decent Mr Beale (aka Bulwell Hall) helping out on the bookstand once again! Those of you of a nervous disposition, look away now: The culprint? None other than Steve 'Cookie' Cook again! 5
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) LarkRail 2013 (New Oriel Hall, Larkhall, Bath) A change of venue and now a one day show, rather than two days, but actually a winning format, especially when the pub (just over the road) and the barbecue 'chez Castens' afterwards are added in. Please feel free to write your own captions: Some views of Gerry Beale's 'Maiden Newton ' layout in EM: Paul Stanford with his French 'O' gauge layout: Edited May 5, 2020 by Captain Kernow

Jerry Clifford in the background: Maurice Hopper and Phil Copleston have just arrived: The Bishopsmead crew demonstrating: Laurie Griffin contemplates what to do next: Free at last! With Simon's bookshop just over the road, there was no need to bring the bookstand to the show, so Gerry B is free to bring a section of his 'Maiden Newton' (EM) layout to the show. Gordon Gravett looks on: 'Himself' taking some snaps: Laurie Griffin, Barry Norman, unknown chap (sorry) and Steve Cook:
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 2017 was the last of the original series of LarkRail. Once again, I don't seem to have taken as many photos this time, no doubt too busy selling bananas to worthy customers. The Captain tries a selfie, with Corbs in the background: The lovely Ginny and Peter Barnfield at the serving counter, clearly not quite sure which banana to choose: And finally, I promised you a dodgy character - look no further, bgman! RMweb Gold queensquare Posted May 6, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 6, 2020 Some great photos CK. Lovely shot of Peter and Ginney Barnfield, John F sporting a lockdown haircut long before they became fashionable, John Greenwoods bright shirts stand out and I'm not sure how well advised my own pink number is! All of my little layouts have featured at the show over the years in an 'in progress' state. Highbury is from the early 2000s and, I think dates from the Moncton Combe school days. A naked Tucking Mill, with John Greenwood, the Grand brothers and all sorts of inappropriate stock is from BoA, I think in 2010/11. The early shots of William Smith's Wharf from 2015/16 are some of my favourites as Iain Rice had posed some of the North Cornwall Minerals locos on the Wharf next to a brace of 2mm 'Bodmins'. The NCMR was probably the biggest single influence on my own, fictitious, North Somerset Light Railway. More people pictures later. Jerry
RMweb Gold Not Jeremy Posted May 6, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 6, 2020 Thank you to all contributors and especially Tim for that fabulous illustrated walk through a large part of my adult life(!) So many faces there, lots of happy memories of a great hobby being enjoyed by so many people. Invidious to pick out any image, but I rather like this one from an early-ish St Margaret's Hall Bradford On Avon show. Andy Cundick stands behind his layout, Richard Dagger with his P4 stock and on the right the very accomplished Bob Alderman, who was a very kind and welcome exhibitor at my shows from its early years. In the background I can see my nephew James pouring tea, he has just joined the Met and is probably pouring tea again..... I will put more names to faces or backs of heads later, I think I can see a very youthful Corbs in one of the shots.... Simon 4
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted May 6, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 6, 2020 I'm sure that we all are looking forward to the revived Larkrail next year. Along with Warminster and RMweb day at Taunton they're always the most relaxed, friendly and enjoyable gatherings in our neck of the woods.
