RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 8, 2020 I had a chance to browse the 2020 Airfix catalogue today. There was not much for model railways as you might expect but listed is a 1/72 kit for a Case tractor towing a roller. This is basically a civilian vehicle used by the USAAF for airfield construction. Slightly overscale perhaps for 00 but a prototype that was imported during the war years to help in food production. modelldoc
Yes, the tractor is a nice kit, but on the website these kits (the Scammell too) are not listed, why, at the moment, nobody knows it. modelldoc
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 9, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 9, 2020 The catalogue only shows drawings of this and the Scammells, probably because they are still on the drawing board.
Butler Henderson
Another year waiting for yet another lightbulb to go on at Hornby and them release as Airfx kits some of the ebay ££££ Skaledale items - the brick retaining walls for example.
wamwig
General opinion elsewhere is that the Scammells and the Case tractor are models that Thunder Models were working on a couple of years ago but then quietly dropped to concentrate on larger scales. Also IBG Models (A Polish company I think, who also make 1/72 scale Bedford QL's and CMP trucks) are understood to be producing a Scammell Recovery Vehicle and an Artillery Tractor variant (with a tank transporter to come later) in 1/72 scale, with the first two versions probably released in a couple of months.
modelldoc
But in the workbench blog from 10th of January 2020 Airfix told us, we make all these kits. modelldoc
