Bo-Bo
Springfield goods is going to be a micro diorama I am planning to build. Springfield goods is a fictitious name which will be modelled around a small countryside goods yard. The plinth I will be using is 4”x4” square and is made from solid oak. As per my other diorama projects I will be adding as much detail as possible without overwhelming the space. More to follow....
RMweb Premium MAP66 Posted January 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2020 Sounds intriguing Mark, looking forward to seeing what you have in mind, not much space to play with. Regards Mark

Regards Mark Mark I think that’ is what draws me to modelling in such a small space.
Bo-Bo
Today I received delivery of my oak plinth, length of Peco track and some other goodies to start my diorama build. The track is now glued in place ready for weathering. Following this I will start to build the goods unloading area. But for now a picture of my progress..
SteveyDee68
Now, Bo-Bo, I sneaked my layouts into this section of the website, but your dioramas truly are "micro"! Intrigued to see what you do with this minuscule area! I can tell already, though, that there will be no "budging" involved. Steve S
Bo-Bo
Steve thanks for your reply, I like to model a railway theme in the smallest area possible. Definitely no budging.
Bo-Bo
A little more progress today on the diorama. The unloading area has been built and the surface will be added using a filler mix. The unloading area will then be painted and weathered to the affect I want. The ballasting has been done, once this has had time to dry I can start on weathering up the track. So a few pictures of the progress..
noctilux2
I find these mini dioramas very inspiring. Have gradually been reducing my last four layouts to RUB wrapping paper box size & now feel I need to try my hand at something even smaller. Your “China Clay” diorama is a prime example so will be following this latest production avidly.

Bo-Bo
Hi I have managed a little more progress on my diorama. The track has now been weathered and the unloading area has had some filler added. This is to replicate where concrete and stone paving where used in conjunction together. The first colour of grey has been applied and will be weathered once dried. So here are a few pictures..
Bo-Bo
Thanks TechnicArrow for the thumbs up. Today I have managed to weather up the unloading platform and some more weathering on the track. The wills yard crane is progressing nicely and will be fitted to the platform in due course. For now a few pictures..
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 3, 2020 Whilst I appreciate this is far too late for this model, for your next diorama you could try removing all the webbing between the sleepers. Care will be needed to ensure all are then spaced and aligned correctly, but I think it will give a better visual impression of the track, as there will be a proper gap beneath the rails. Bo-Bo
Thanks Stu for your advice, i will be certain to try this on my next project build.
HonestTom
I like that concrete and stone effect on the platform. You see it a lot out in the real world, but I don't recall seeing it often modelled.

Hi HonestTom thanks for your comments, I know you can see it a lot in the real world so I thought why not try and encompass this in my diorama.
Bo-Bo
Hi the wills yard crane has been added to the diorama, the crane has been painted and weathered and I am pleased with the way it’s looking. A picture of the crane now added to the diorama..
