Green Trains, ie Carbon Neutral

Wouldn’t it be ironic, or symbolic, if the nation that gave the world the steam locomotive was also the First Nation to ban them?

Sort of book-ending our contribution to the coal-fueled part of the industrial revolution, and possibly ‘signing off’ as a significant player in technological advancement as we put on a Union Jack waistcoat and veered back to pre-industrial John Bullshire.

As an island we benefit from a long coastline and many opportunities for tidal barrages. Apart from the energy generating potential in many cases with road and rail on top would significantly shorten journeys between coastal towns and regions with all the energy saving benefits which that brings. Though such schemes have a high initial carbon cost their payback time could be measured (like railways) in centuries.

A road from Barrow to Heysham for example.

Wonder what happened to that proposal, I think it was one of those pie in sky good ideas that sank in 2017

Bit like the chap who wants to bring a road/rail scheme across Woodhead as it might save Lorry drivers some time even though they could simply head to the M62 if they really wanted to avoid Woodhead.
