08 Buffer beams

I have been looking at a few pictures of 08s pre tops and have noticed that buffer beams were painted either Red or Yellow. Is there an explanation for this and what is it.

Kind of like the age old question of what colour the rods should be. There would have been some colour spec. somewhere but it could depended on the depot and what cans of paint were already open lol.

Probably depends how pre you mean by pre tops ......... all beams ( and rods ) would have beams red originally ( on black or green locos ) but yellow would have appeared - if the painter had time to waste - once yellow ends became the norm and yellow paint became more readily available.
