Maunsell Restaurant Coaches in N

I wonder if we ever will see the Maunsell Restaurant Coaches by Dapol in N Gauge?

 

What do the customers think - what do Dapol think?

Whilst it would be good to see more restaurant / kitchen coaches in N, the market is small so it is unlikely that we will see any.

It took Hornby a long time to do one in 00 and they still don't have one for GWR beyond the ancient Railroad one.

 

So if that market is small, you can imagine where the N market is.

 

That said Dapol did do a Gresley buffet so you never know, but probably not in 2020

On a personal note, I would prefer that they did a GWR restaurant / kitchen car. (I still don't expect to see one however).

A Maunsell Third Open in N-scale would probably be a better suggestion for a new Dapol moulding. They were physically unchanged during SR Maunsell, SR Bulleid, BR Crimson Lake & Cream and BR Green livery periods. These vehicles were paired with the Maunsell kitchen firsts for most of the latter's lives. 

 

Once there is a Maunsell Open Third, asking for a Restaurant First would make more sense.

The Maunsell Third Open would also open the Way for Maunsell Push-Pull Sets.

Restaurant vehicles make more sense in N due to the availability to run longer trains on layouts. That said, some K type pullman's in N would open up a new range of coaches and let you drop one in in a train of maunsell's.
