Little Framling , a ex GER branch line terminus

@stivesnick. Hi Nick , thank you , I’m really pleased with the layout so far

Little Framling is based on Framlingham, although not an exact copy , so along side the station there will be the Station Tavern which I’m going to have to scratch build as I cannot find one that will fit , next to that will be about four terrace houses and then the yard will open out and there will be a range of various buildings ie coal and wood merchants, small warehouses that will line the back siding and depending on how much room I have they’ll either be full buildings or low relief

The jigsaw of where to put buildings etc is slowly coming together , and sometimes it’s the smallest of parts that determine where they go , for me it’s the double goods yard gates which I’ve just built , so now I know how much room I have to play with for the goods yard entrance

Hello everyone

I have been doing a bit more work on layout , the platform canopy is finished , although the matt black roof does have a bit of a sheen to it , so if anyone has any ideas how to dull it down

The platform has had a tarmac repair and the station masters garden fencing has been laid out for sizing and the small end wall for the canopy has been started

Hi everyone

It has been a busy week and a bit here at Little Framling , I have got a few more lights going on the station platform and they look quite good , I’ve fitting the platform back wall up to the end of the original platform , the rest will be railings and I have been busy working on the goods shed , which I am very pleased with.

I have also been painting my GER benches which I got from Shapeways , an expensive indulgence but they look so good

On a more serious note , the Station Master was not very happy with my temporary repair to the platform surface, so he was straight on the phone to the regional office and they made me resurface the whole lot . The Station Master was very pleased with my work , until I drilled a hole for one of the platform lights in the wrong place , needless to say he is not a happy bunny

@Allegheny1600, Hi John , thank you it’s starting to get there , and I am really happy with how it is going

Yes there will be a few characters working at the station , like the Pheasant shooting signalman , who usually manages to bag a couple during the season , and if it isn’t them it’s rabbits, he’s good mates with the goods yard foreman.

I’ve yet to give them names , but I am sure I will think of some soon

Hello everyone

Once again it has been a busy time at Little Framling. The platform canopy has now been stuck in place as have the benches, the small end wall has been build and fitting and along with a few people the station is beginning to look right and feel like it is coming alive

The Station Masters garden has been started with the fencing and a small shed, also some of the station fencing has been fitted along with a few bushes and a tree , and some cobblestone has been laid and a small fence around the entrance to the SM’s accommodation.

All these little additions have really started to make the layout come alive , but there is still a lot , lot more to do

Hello everyone

Once again it has been all go at Little Framling , and for a change the work has been on board no2. The point work and track has been laid and wired up and being as electrics are a real weak point with me , I’m please with how it has gone .
Yes I know I have used scotchloks and I know quite a few don’t approve of them , but they work for me , especially as I’m not the worlds greatest solder , I am just waiting for a few switch holders to arrive and then I can do some testing to make sure it all works and then I can get going on the the scenery.

I have added my  partiality built goods shed so you can see where it is located

Hi Jayne,

Good for you, using Scotchlocks! I get on well with them too, all I found was that if you fold over the thinner wire to make it the same or similar thickness as the main wire, you won’t have a problem.

It’s only if you try to join dissimilar sized wires together, you can get a problem and that’s only because it’s so hard to crimp such wires together.

Cheers,

John

Hello everyone

Well after laying the track on board two what I thought would be a straightforward test turned out to be anything but.  As you know electrics are not exactly my strong point , and I had a short and I could not fathom where it was , so I redone all the drops and bus testing as I went and it seemed fine , so feeling all proud of myself I connected it all up and lo and behold the short was still there , so then I looked at the points and the first one I looked at I found the problem , the tiny air gap leading to the frog had closed and that was the cause , so next time I’ve a short I will be checking the points first

So now after a successful test I can continue with the track weathering and the glueing down and then the scenery can begin

Hello everyone

Here is the latest update on Little Framling. I have been busy building my signal box, which is a Wills kit with the Ratio interior kit and has a while to do as the paint has taken an age to dry because it’s not exactly warm at the moment

I took a couple of photos before the roof was finally glued down so you can see the interior and the signal man who is having a munch on a sandwich after setting the road for the next departure

Hello everyone (again) , I was hoping to get a be good bit done tonight on board 2 , unfortunately I ended up working late so I didn’t manage to do as much as i would have liked

So where am I up to on board 2 , well the track has been weathered and glued down, almost finished the the banking where the railways terrace houses will sit and the allotments.

I have added the goods shed and signal box in their locations

Very charming.

This has the feel of Colchester Town which would be my prototype of choice if I wasn't already fully  committed to a London location.  There's an S gauge layout which is similar on the exhibition circuit called Abbey Street which is worth seeing although these pictures don't show it off fully.  It's in the Chelmsford area.   http://www.s-scale.org.uk/gallery28.htm

Hello everyone

Another piece of the Little Framling puzzle has been completed, and that is the cattle dock . It has been quite a long time since I started work on the dock and now it’s is finally done except for the live stock

I have been working on a few other bits and pieces and those will be following along quite soon

Hello everyone, life has slowed down a little at Little Framling as the weather has been quite good and I have been busy in the garden .  Popped to my local model railway shop yesterday to get some scenic bits and pieces which I got , but I also ended up with three LNER six wheeler carriages which I quite pleased with, and I have been working on with the Station Masters garden which is looking pretty good

That is it for now

Hello everyone,  I have been doing a bit more work on the small approach to the cattle dock , added some turf and earth scatter , some bushes and trees , and a light to the approach and i have started some fencing that will shield off the cattle dock.

I have started a few layouts over the years in OO and N gauge , but I have never finished them , this time I am going to

Hi, you say you found the fault/short in your point. I have a short somewhere which has had me stumped for ages. Maybe if you could point(!) out where the fault was with a photo or diagram I could at least check my dozen Tortoise motors. I am usually fairly good with wiring but this has going crackers.

thanks

Pete

Who let the dogs out , there is a little terrier running around Little Framling in the shape of Rolvenden.  I know it isn’t what I’m modelling but after seeing the terriers in the display case at Invicta I just had to get one , and there was only one I wanted and that was Rolvenden.

I have also added some of the buildings in there places , I am so pleased with how the layout is turning out

OMG what’s happened, Little Framling has been invaded by the Kent and East Sussex in the shape of terriers Rolvenden and Bembridge and the P class .

They look very good , next on my list is DS237 Maunsell.  I am still modelling the GER I’m just collecting K&ESR locoF41DB37B-0D67-4421-867B-8AC837BBD0CC.jpeg.33df17cbb189c77629b06cd3b9580dd8.jpegmotives

It had been a long while since I last posted on Little Framling, mainly because I hit a blank. I got to a certain point and it’s stalled. I managed to do a bit more scenery and run out of puff so to speak.
The layout is too long for the room I currently have, so Little Framling is going to be moth balled until I do. I have put too much into the layout to scrap it and I haven’t the heart to anyway.

So I will be working on a new layout much is a lot smaller only 8ft x 2ft L-shape and it will be the H&HRPS. As soon as I can find somewhere to store Little Framling I will be starting on construction of the baseboards, so watch this space

We all hit blanks from time to time. Its inevitable when doing something creative. I hope you find somewhere big enough to erect it in full as Framlingham has always appealed to me to a prototype to model.

By the way, what is the H&HRSP? A branch of the KESR? (Another prototype that appeals to me).

@David C.  I would love to tell what H&HRPS stands for, but that would very much give the game away, the only thing I’ll say is that the end bit is Railway Preservation Society and it will based on a what if.

Little Framling will return

Jayne

Ps got the last bit around the wrong way in my previous post
