Hi Everyone.

I have been working on the layout today and planted a tree which I made myself using the twisted wire technique and plaster and lichen.

I've also done a bit of ballasting and painted the track.

Here is a couple  of photos of lastest progress:

Thanks for the replies Everyone.

Today I am going to cover the bridge in brick paper or maybe brick sheet if I have enough and then detail it up and add the road too.

Hi Everyone.

I did some work on the bridge today and it doesn't look to bad, I built it with bits of brick paper I had lying about, I'm not 100% happy it but there is more to do yet so it may look better then.

Here is a quick photo:

Looks good Jerry.

I admire your ability to ‘get on with it’, I’m suffering too much from I’ll do it tomorrow...

Thanks.

My wife thinks she's a modelling widow as I have spent most of today on the layout so I have finished for tonight.

Before I go, here is a quick photo of the finished bridge:

It looks better now, going to blend it into the layout tomorrow.

Jerry the bridge looks much better in it’s finished form.

Thanks, it was a bit of a pain to build but worth it in the end.

For what it's made from, that bridge looks superb! I think it would perhaps benefit from another lintel just above the openings, but now you've done the smoke-weathering it looks pretty realistic. Overall I'm enjoying watching the layout take shape.

Thanks,  I took your advice and added the extra lintels and it looks much better so thanks for that.

Hi Jerry,  Large areas of plain brickwork can always look a bit odd and sometimes overpowering, particularly on a small layout, mine certainly did, though they improved vastly once I put the embankments and hedgerows in.  Kind regards Paul

Thanks Everyone for your replies.

Quite a bit has been done since the last photo/update and I will post a photo and info later,  I'm cleaning up the mess at the moment to keep SWMBO happy.

Jerry the sheep look quite at home grazing on the grass. Can I ask what make the tractor is as I’m looking for something the same. BTW great work.

Hi,

It's an oxford diecast grey fergusson tractor.

The sheep are looking for the farmer which I will add when I paint it,  also a sheep dog will be added.

Hi Everyone.

I've done a bit more work on the layout,  added another tree and a fence around the field with the tractor,  also a wall to hide the fiddle yard.

I will post a few photos tomorrow.

Excellent progress report Jerry, loving the detail you are adding.

Is the layout operational as yet? as I would find it hard to keep on modelling with the continuous temptation of wanting to shunt something. A very nice dilemma to have.

All the best

Mark

Thanks for the replies Everyone.

The layout is fully wired and functional,  it's quite fun to operate.  ( forget to mention in a earlier post  ).

I have a railcar for passenger duties and a small 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 and coach too.

I am saving up for a class 121 bubblecar to add to the passenger roster.

I would urge anyone to have a go, it's a simple design and fun to operate,  you could use Paul's original design or like myself use your own take on it.

Very nice work on your layout, looks really fun to operate. Really like the trees you have made.

Thanks,  the trees are made using strands of forest wire that you twist and then shape into your desired tree shape,  I then cover in tile grout mixed with a bit of pva glue,  once dry I add a second coat and when dry paint and add lichen.

It's a messy way of doing it and you're wrists get knackered but you can get quite good results.
