Les Bird
I have on my layout a Mike's Models Great Eastern water crane. Rummaging through my stock of accessories, I came across another Mike's Models crane (catalogue no,8) which is marked L&Y/GE. It has a (non working) gas lamp on the top and looks nothing like the other crane on the layout. Can anyone shed any light on this?
CKPR
Water cranes, like signalling, turntables, etc were often bought in from outside manufacturers and so it was possible to see the same design on different pre-grouping railways - the L&Y / GE example probably represents a design that was bought in by the GE. Les Bird
That of course is quite likely but I would like to see a picture to convince me, I've trawled through several books and the web but without success so far. I'll keep looking.
Steamport Southport
A typical L&YR water crane here. They were normally quite substantial. http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/b/bacup/index5.shtml Jason

That's pretty much what the kit looks like so I remain unconvinced that it would suit a GE layout
stewartingram
Somewhere..just somewhere....in my mind....I seem to recall when these kits came out that I doubted it. But I was younger and, shall we say, less....knowledgeable? I'm thinking that not long after that I came across a reference, maybe a picture of one, in GE territory. But I can't be sure! Have you enquired with the GER Society? Stewart
