RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted March 14, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 14, 2020 (edited) Replacement Eurostar bogies courtesy of Peters Spares. Heljan bogie sides are a push fit onto spigots moulded to the bogies. The “Eurostar” replacements were cut from their bogies and a plasticard backing was glued on. Prior to glueing to the new bogie sides, holes were drilled and broached out in the plasticard to secure styrene tubes that will push fit onto the Heljan bogies. One bogie test fitted. Second bogie yet to be completed along with cab access steps on each bogie. The wheels should presumably be smaller in diameter but that is not something I’m going to attempt. cheesysmith
If you were making it into a unpowered loco (like the prototype was) it would be easy to remove all the gears, and replace the wheels with correct sized ones. All you would need would be some of the correct size with 2mm axles. Don't know what size the Hornby Eurostar axles are. If you were keeping it as a power loco, as long as the replacement wheels come on a 2mm axle, pulling off the old ones and replacing with ones of the correct size is not too difficult. Or ring some Heljan wheels being sold as spares from people who have upgraded from the original wheels and use the axles to keep the ones sold with the model as spares.
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted March 15, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) Hi Cheesysmith. I have a Lima Class 73 that I am going to make the “unpowered” loco in the consist on the basis that the Heljan power plant is better than the Lima one. Changing the wheels on the Heljan class 33 is a project for the future... Cheers Darius Edited March 15, 2020 by Darius43

Kelly
Nice work. The grille on the side behind the cab should also be plated over. I've a plan to do one at some point in the future.
