RMweb Premium Neil Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2020 Though it's further afield it's probably worth noting that Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg is closed until 30th April. Obviously this could be subject to change so the advice has to be to check with their website. Link to their website here for info and updates. 1

Moderators AY Mod Posted March 16, 2020 Author Moderators Share Posted March 16, 2020 LONDON FESTIVAL OF RAILWAY MODELLING - ALEXANDRA PALACE 21/22 MARCH 2020 Statement as of 16.3.20 Warners Shows have decided to postpone the London Festival of Railway Modelling, 21-22 March 2020. We pride ourselves on delivering outstanding events to the hobby and this decision was not reached lightly, but the right one for the health and safety of all involved. Naturally, we are all very disappointed and we are currently working with the venue to secure new dates. Thank you to all the sponsors, exhibitors, layouts, societies and visitors for their continued support for the show during these exceptional circumstances. We will shortly be making contact with everyone who is involved in the show to organise transfers / refunds 2

RMweb Gold JohnR Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2020 Many small clubs rely on the annual exhibition to survive. Is there anyway a "virtual" exhibition could be staged, to raise funds - and providing links to traders websites, as many of them will be dependent on the sales they make at exhibitions? 2
RMweb Gold Kaput Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2020 I have a distinct feeling the type of traders that have fully functional websites with online ordering facilities and such are the ones the least affected by the cancellation of shows. The smaller traders that rely on shows are a lot more likely to either not have a website at all or only a basic one and any mail order setup is strictly old fashioned email/post based and wouldn't actually hold up to replacing their show attendance.

That is a very simplistic view. I do not want to generalise, but many smaller traders only trade part time and have full time jobs and very little in the way of business overheads so will not hurt as much as the full time businesses. Also the very small traders tend to offer niche products so in many cases sales will be delayed not lost. We are not big, I employ 3 people and have to pay all my overheads, rent, wages, etc whether the shows run or not. No matter how good the website I will be stunned if any increase mail order can make up for the sheer volume of business lost with all these shows cancelled. I do offer some unique product, but a lot is available from multiple sources so a lot of sales will be lost forever. Added to that a lot of money is already spent which cannot be reclaimed, prepaid Hotels, Van Hire etc. Times will be very hard. 1 1
