RMweb Gold Popular Post Accurascale Fran Posted March 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) We are very excited to unveil the fifth and final ‘missing’ variant of Class 37 in our first production run, the upgraded Class 37/4 locomotives currently running on the national network in a range of colourful company and heritage liveries. A total of 31 of the classic EE Type 3s were ‘refurbished’ at Crewe Works during 1985-6 and equipped with ETS/ETH (electric train supply/heat) instantly making the new Class 37/4 sub-class the most versatile example of what is already the quintessential mixed-traffic locomotive. By the late 2000s DB Schenker was running the fleet down, eventually retiring the last locomotive, No. 37425, in 2010. Happily, Direct Rail Services, which had already returned two Class 37/4s to traffic, acquired all 13 ex-DBS machines plus several others, eventually picking the best eight examples for rebuilding. The first upgraded DRS Class 37/4 was No. 37423, which was outshopped by Brush, Loughborough, in 2008. The most involved conversion, this included WIPAC light clusters and top headlight, toughened windscreens, plated headcode box, cab kickplates and the fitment of nose multiple working sockets. Later rebuilds, by HNRC at Barrow Hill and RVEL/Loram Derby, were just as involved, although the locomotives kept more of their original appearance. The main differences were new, larger, LED tail lights instead of WIPACs, while many also gained plated bodyside windows. Neither version has been accurately produced in OO gauge before. Most were initially repainted in DRS’ compass scheme and became solid performers on its portfolio of loco-hauled services in Cumbria and East Anglia as well as test trains, saloon outings, stock moves, railtours and RHTT work. The arrival of ex-reserve locomotive No. 37401, which had been restored to large logo livery in 2013 by the Scottish Railway Preservation Society while on loan, triggered a rethink. The result was that a further four 37/4s were turned out in this livery along with the SRPS’ own main line-registered No. 37403. Incredibly 2019 saw the repaint of No. 37419 into InterCity Mainline, while 2020 will see the debut of No. 37425 Sir Robert McAlpine/Concrete Bob in the attractive 1990s Regional Railways scheme. The Accurascale upgraded Class 37/4 will be offered in DC/DCC Ready and DCC Sound formats, with a twin speaker set up with ESU Loksound v5 decoder fitted to all sound models. Our high-quality specification includes: all-wheel drive, helical gearing, full and accurate lighting packages as per prototypes, stay-alive power pack to provide excellent performance over dirty track, large centrally-mounted five-pole can motor with twin flywheels and a heavy metal chassis. Prices are £169.99 for DC/DCC Ready models and £259.99 for sound fitted models. A £30 deposit secures your order with us direct, or you can order with our network of Accurascale Approved stockists. Delivery is due in early 2021. You can place your order here. Check out what our Senior Project Manager Gareth Bayer has to say about the modern 37/4 is this video (Sorry about the sound quality, we are buying microphones for next time!) and below the video you can see the full detail breakdown on each loco, demonstrating the lengths we are willing to go to so we can bring you the best Class 37 possible in 4mm/OO! https://youtu.be/JbGST-xj7Es 2018-present BR Large Logo livery Centre headcode nose with headlight, large LED tail lights and MW socket Refurbished'split' nose grilles Nose aerial Cutaway bufferbeam cowling with oval buffers ETH bufferbeam configuration with ETH/air/vac/control/MW pipes Toughened windscreens with as built cab layout Plated bodyside windows (both sides) Welded roof with plated boiler exhaust and small cab roof vent Fabricated bogies Boiler water tank converted to long range fuel tank Late EE cantrail grilles Plated bodyside water filler and associated steps Optional miniature snowploughs Triple cab door kickplate 2018-present DRS Simplified Compass livery Centre headcode nose with plated headcode box, MW socket and WIPAC light clusters Refurbished'split' nose grilles Nose aerial Cutaway bufferbeam cowling with squared oval buffers ETH bufferbeam configuration with ETH/air/vac/control/MW pipes Toughened windscreens, revised DRS control desk and centre cab partition Welded roof with plated boiler exhaust and no cab roof vent Fabricated bogies Boiler water tank converted to long range fuel tank Late EE cantrail grilles Plated bodyside water filler and associated steps Optional miniature snowploughs Double cab door kickplate 2019-present InterCity Mainline livery Centre headcode nose with headlight, large LED tail lights and MW socket Refurbished'split' nose grilles Nose aerial Cutaway bufferbeam cowling with squared oval buffers ETH bufferbeam configuration with ETH/air/vac/control/MW pipes Toughened windscreens with as built cab layout Plated bodyside windows (both sides) Welded roof with plated boiler exhaust and no cab roof vent Cast (Class 37) bogies Boiler water tank converted to long range fuel tank Late EE cantrail grilles Plated bodyside water filler and associated steps Optional miniature snowploughs Triple cab door kickplate 2020-present Regional Railways livery Centre headcode nose with headlight, large LED tail lights and MW socket Refurbished'split' nose grilles Nose aerial Cutaway bufferbeam cowling with squared oval buffers ETH bufferbeam configuration with ETH/air/vac/control/MW pipes Toughened windscreens with as built cab layout Plated bodyside windows (both sides) Welded roof with plated boiler exhaust and no cab roof vent Fabricated bogies Boiler water tank converted to long range fuel tank Late EE cantrail grilles Plated bodyside water filler and associated steps Optional miniature snowploughs Triple cab door kickplate Stay safe and happy modelling! atom3624
I'm totally lost with all of the variations and fine tuning. I ordered one from the first announcement, and am patiently waiting. Perhaps if/when I get a chance, I'll look through and study the variations. Any consideration for a West Coast iteration? Al.

Hi Al, You should try making them, the 37 is an absolute minefield when it comes to rebuilds, variation etc. The painstaking research and design that has gone into our model has consumed thousands of hours. We dont have plans for a WCRC 37 at this time. I'm sure it will come up in a future run though. Cheers! Fran 2
cheesysmith
My wallet can breathe a sigh of relief. As I model early (with flexibility) 80s, I'm safe lol. More excellent models to bury Bachmann efforts. At least yours are correct for the versions being modelled, not just a 37 with different colours on. Keep them coming. 2 4

My heart did a little flutter when I opened the email, but I breathed a sigh of relief when I realised they were not 80’s/90’s versions. 66738
RMweb Gold TravisM Posted March 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 21, 2020 Oh lord, this is getting expensive. I’ll be ordering two at the end of the month 1 1
truffy
@DRS Crewe On A Mission should be happy. I have one from the first announcement on order, and really don’t need another. But the idea of Concrete Bob amuses me. 1 1

Bachmann have covered the earlier ones. Versions on my wanted list have not been announced yet either. I am sure they will be in time though. 1

66738
The modern railway scene is not really my thing, but it surely can’t be long until saloon ‘Caroline’ is announced by someone. Accurascale’s 37/4 would be the perfect accompaniment to her. 66738 6

I have one from the first announcement on order, and really don’t need another. But the idea of Concrete Bob amuses me. You're right, I'm very happy. Thank you very much tagging me in the post. I do love the 37s as many others do. Now I already have 409, 419 & 425 in DRS Compass by Bachmann. I will probably have to keep them because the selling prices for them are quite low but 37423 in DRS Plain/Basic is a massive yes for me and I have been hoping that this one would be announced for a while. So I will definitely be pre-ordering this one. If I have the funds I may pre-order the Accurascale versions of 409, 419 & 425, but at this moment in time with all of the other 37s and everything else that I have on my wishlist this might not happen. Regardless of my position of what I will be buying, well done Accurascale. You have a clear strategy and business plan and you continually pull it out of the bag for all of us modellers and collectors. I can't wait to have 37423 and some 37/6s running on my layout. Thank you. Kind Regards, Danny. 2

RMweb Gold Accurascale Fran Posted March 21, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 21, 2020 Hi everyone, Thanks very much for your feedback and orders so far. RMweb Premium DRS Crewe On A Mission Posted March 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 21, 2020 Hi Fran, Thank you for another fantastic announcement. I'm very pleased to see 37423 in DRS Basic/Plain feature. Would you be able to answer a couple of questions for me please? I notice that the above four Class 37/4s announced today have an estimated delivery of early 2021. Does this apply to all of the 37s released previously too or are all of the previously announced 37s still due to arrive in Q4 2020? Also is this the last Class 37 announcement for batch one due in Q4 2020/Q1 2021 or will their be further additions announced soon to arrive in the first batch? If their are to be more new Class 37 announcements can you confirm when they will be announced? I ask the second question because I would like to know the full list of new 37s that will feature in batch one before I commit to pre-ordering, as I won't be able to afford all of the ones that I would like, so I will be choosing to pre-order/buy the ones that I want the most. Thank you very much in advance. Kind Regards, Danny.
RMweb Gold Accurascale Fran Posted March 21, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 21, 2020 Hi Danny, No problem at all. Yes, this is pretty much the last of them that we will announce for run one. There may be one more loco, but we are not sure yet. We envisage all the locos coming together. The recent corona virus fall out is pushing the 37s into early 2021. Hope this helps. Cheers! Fran 1
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted March 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) He’s only gone and done it. Ryan91
Great news guy's! RMweb Gold TravisM Posted March 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 21, 2020 Because I’m on a limited budget due to ill health, if I pay the deposit for the two loco’s I’m after, can I pay you in instalments until they arrive so I don’t get a huge hit on the old credit card?
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted March 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 21, 2020 I have 423 part way through a livery upgrade - so that will be finished. 425 was on the repaint list and 419 was a possible.......
