Seeing as everyone seems to be posting prototype photos, here is a Czech Pendolino at Poprad Tatry, Slovakia, on its way from Košice to Prague on 1st August last year.

A bit further back, a 183 at Spišská Nová Ves in 2008. I think it is the same type as the 1973 photo. Still used for banking heavy trains through the mountains.

These are the beasties that haul the trains that the 183s bank

The large structure above Poprad Tatry station is the terminus of the Tatranská elektrická železnica (Tatra Electric Railway), a metre gauge line that runs up into the Tatra Mountains to Štrbské Pleso. This operated using Stadler GTW units.

This is the other end of the TEZ at Štrbské Pleso, a winter sports resort. There is also a branch to Tatranská Lomnica.

I was in the Ostrava area last October and saw two beasties - the first at Ostrava-Kuncice

And a couple of days later at Cesky Tesin

I also travelled on a passenger train hauled by a 742, if only for a short hop from Ostrava-Stred to Kuncice. I can't remember whether it was the service to Frenstat or Valasske Mezirici. Photo taken at Stred.

Beasties?  Here's some from 2002.

The "usual" beastie - 131 029-1 at Strba (the mainline junction for the rack line to Strbske Pleso).  September 2002.

Broad gauge beasties -  two doubles on the 1520mm gauge at Trebisov - 125 818-5 (paired with 125 817-7, I don't have the identities of the second pair).  September 2002.

How about an OO-gauge version of the Velime Test Track?

Quote

The Velim test center (Czech: Zkušební centrum Velim) is a railway rolling stock testing facility at Cerhenice, close to the city of Poděbrady in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has become one of the main testing locations for new types of rolling stock designed for use in Europe, and has been a fully accredited European test centre since March 1995

The two standard gauge test circuits were built in 1963, and are located between the villages of Vrbová Lhota, Ratenice, Cerhenice, Velim, Pňov-Předhradí and the southern suburbs of Poděbrady. The village of Sokoleč lies completely inside the larger circuit.

  • small circuit 3.951-kilometre long with a maximum allowed speed of 90 km/h.
  • large circuit 13.276-kilometre long with a maximum allowed speed of 230 km/h for tilting trains and up to 210 km/h for conventional trains.

https://wiki2.org/en/Velim_railway_test_circuit

Advance Warning to the Rivet Police:

We are not doing round-and-round racing, How dare you suggest such a thing! We are doing proper modelling of endurance testing at the maximum allowed speed of 230 km/h. That's my alibi and I'm sticking to it. (Whisper: How big a shed do we need for this?)

Seeing as EddieB has mentioned the rack railway from Štrba to Štrbské Pleso, here is a photo of one of the rack EMUs.

How big a shed do we need for this?

Assuming it was circular, 13.276-km circumference would mean 4.225km diameter. In HO, that would be 48.5m diameter (160 feet). So, it would fit nicely on half a premier league football pitch. Quite a big shed.

Measuring off google maps, it's an oval - 2.82km side-to-side and 5.04km end-to-end (approximately!) - so 32m by 58m in HO.
