Nearholmer
No, no recollection of the tank colour at all. Sorry! My job was on the electrical side, re-wiring, and a lot of it was spent sitting on a stool, staring into equipment cases hung from the under frame, terminating wires! RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted March 31, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 31, 2020 (edited) De-icing fluid tanks scratch built from plasticard, styrene angle section and brass wire. Replacement interior floor made from 1mm plasticard sheet - it clips in place in the same way as the Hornby interior. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted March 31, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 31, 2020 (edited) Second de-icing fluid tank cluster completed and primed. Cheers Darius Edited February 27, 2023 by Darius43 6
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted April 1, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1, 2020 (edited) In the absence of any definitive colour data, I decided to paint the tanks “Post Office Red”. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted April 1, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1, 2020 (edited) After an elaborate search I found the NNK etched EMU cabside window frames that I bought at Warley a few years ago. These were fitted and painted. BR Arrow and “Private” decals applied to the doors. Cheers Darius Edited February 27, 2023 by Darius43
bécasse
My memory suggests that the deicing-fluid tanks were gloss black when the units were first built - it is, though, a long time ago.

dasatcopthorne
I've just scanned a few but they need enhancing. In 1978/9 I was privileged to be able to visit Selhurst a few times. It just happened to be when they were doing some conversions on De-Icers and later Stores Units. I also surveyed ans photographed stores unit 023 at Fratton if you want some of that. Will post when I've worked on these. Dave
dasatcopthorne
Darius. Hope you can use these. Please let me know if you get stuck on something. I may know but then again, I may not.

RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted April 2, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2020 Dave, These are really great and very useful photos. Many thanks for taking the trouble to scan and post them!!! The last set will really help with the custom decals that I am getting. RMWeb at its best!!! I notice in the photos that a corridor connection is being installed between the two coaches - do you recall if that is the case? Cheers Darius
dasatcopthorne
After seeing them at Selhust I rarely saw them agian so I have no info on the corridor connections. Clearly 006 had some but whether other did, I can't help with. I'm sure someone else will know. BTW did you know there are SR Emu threads under the Special Interests sub directory. FYI I used to model a lot of SR Emus and made a point of getting out with the camera to get shots of stuff and details I needed. This included many roof shots for the pipe arrangements. I also used to sneak around sidings measuring units and their underframe equipment to enable me to make rough drawings. Here's a sample. So if you want anything like this, just ask. I might have what you need but I kind of stopped the measuring at Peps onwards. Dave

Lyddrail
As far as I know they all had gangways from new. These were useful for the on board fitter to get to the equipment on the move. Cheers.

Lyddrail
Darius, I now do working gangways, not very to scale but I feel they do the job for me. Cheers.
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted April 14, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2020 Hi Lyddrail, I have some similar gangways that I obtained from eBay, they work quite well. For the De-icer, I thought I’d try and build something that looks similar to Dave’s photos - more soon. Cheers Darius
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted April 14, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2020 (edited) Based on Dave’s (Dasatcopthorne) photos I built some gangways using plasticard. After painting, I attached lengths of 2.5mm dia. heat shrink tubing to acts as the “bellows”. These were then glued to the ends of each unit.
