rogerfarnworth
Recently I picked up a new copy of this book for less than the price of a railway magazine at the newsagent. I have been enjoying reading it. .......... This is a short review. ....... http://rogerfarnworth.com/2020/03/30/railways-of-the-great-war-book-review
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted June 8, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 8, 2020 I wonder if it has more than various contemporaneous accounts about the part UK railways played in the mobilisation in 1914 and in getting the BEF to Southampton? Overall from what I do know of it the whole thing was not only well planned and organised but worked exactly as planned. Completely unlike the railway aspects of the Schlieffen Plan which were not adequately planned but ran into some very basic numerous problems which - fortunately for British & French forces - resulted in the later waves of German troops and supplies reaching the front line of the German advance much later than intended for the military part of the plan.
