Not much happening with the locos and stock, but whats this? Finally the beginnings of an actual layout, with track on baseboards?????

The station building is Hornby, minus decoration so I'll have to get some brick papers and a canopy for it

May I suggest using Wills plasticard sheets for it? That additional level of physical texture will do it the world of good.

That would probably work very nicely, especially as I wouldn't mind bricking up some of the windows on the road side of the building so I can create a ticket office inside

One step forward, 27 steps back. The Q1's chassis has now decided to stop working for no apparent reason. Everything appears to still be attached but absolutely no movement whatsoever :angry:

Have you checked everything is properly lubricated?

And before any of you on here who know me comment on what my sense of humour is like, no, that is not a euphemism.

I'll give that a try. Having it working quite nicely last week and now nothing is very frustrating as my layout seems to be coming along quickly. I have a thread in the layout topics section (hint, hint :P)

Hints don't do anything but links do!

That has made me hungry! Haven't had one of those for years.

Its been a bit quiet on the WKR lately but I've had a go at tarting up a Hornby station building into Chart Sutton station. Still plenty of work to do but its not terrible for a first (and hopefully only) attempt

  • 3 weeks later...

Thought I'd have another go at getting the Q1 running so I resoldered wires that had managed to come adrift and......still nothing. I have absolutely no clue about electrics and wouldn't know what could possibly be the reason for it to not be running. Short of buying another chassis, I don't think this project will be going much further

Have you tried contacting the Hornby service department? They were very helpful and replaced my T9 chassis that had Mazak rot despite it being second hand.

Ah, but my Q1 isn't that Q1. It's an old SER 0-4-4 bodged together from old Hornby Dublo R1 bodies and a hacked up Hornby 14xx chassis. They'd probably take one look at it and bin it! :jester:

I'm not very experienced with electronics on chassis either. There are probably a number of potential reasons for the problem. Have you tried running the motor outside of the chassis? Perhaps it could be caused by an issue with the mount of the motor or misalignment with the gear on the driving axle.

How would I run the motor outside the chassis?
