It makes it very difficult to actually see the work you do, unless you are doing it to hide some of the work ;-) Andy G 27 minutes ago, cypherman said: Hi Andy, Sorry that is the best I can do with the camera I have and where I take my pictures. It is one of the reasons I use a white sheet of paper to show up the work as best as I can. It is always a bit more difficult with black engines. Just a suggestion, but two things might help. First have the paper forming the background as well as having the model placed on it. In the example I quoted above the loco is towards the back of the paper and the top half of it is black against more black locos behind it. Bring the loco forwards so and bend up the paper behind it so that the paper hides anything in the background. Secondly, instead of white try to find some light to medium grey paper (or thin card e.g. inside of a cereal packet) as this will reflect less light back into the camera which tends to make dark areas under exposed as the camera on automatic setting will think "Oh! Too bright, bring the exposure down" so black areas end up very black. 1

cypherman
Hi all, Well here is my latest bodge finished. And thanks Bernard for the tip. i think the pictures have turned out a little better. This is my take on a sleek and fast tank loco with a good pulling capability for suburban passenger routes circa 1905 with some influences from a certain Mr Drummond. The nearest engine I could find to this is the E6. So I needed a name and thought I would call this engine class the E7T Class A slight improvement on the E6. This engine started out life as a Wrenn N2 and a Triang M7. This is what has been done: 1 Replaced the damaged armature in the motor. 2 Moved the engines whistle further back and put in 2 steam valves. Filed off the original ones that were on the dome. 3 New coupling hooks front and rear. 4 New steam and vacuum pipes front and rear. 5 New steps on the back of the bunker. 6 New top guard rail on the bunker. 7 Scratch built the ventilation hatch on the top of the cab. 8 some other bits of brass work and steps on the engine tanks and splashers. 9 fitted a cover over the 2 holes where the original chassis protruded through. 10 Fitted guard rails on the rear windows. 11 The original M7 had an opening smokebox door and an a plastic inside view. this was removed as it got in the way of the new chassis fitting. The door was then reset further in to the front of the smokebox than the original. 12 fitted new hand rails at various points on the engine. 13 Full repaint in SR black and transfers 14 lamp to indicate branch passenger train. 15 Real coal used in the bunker. 16 lamp irons front and rear. There are probably a few other things I have done. But I cannot think what.... Edited September 12, 2021 by cypherman 4
Sophia NSE
I think it's time for an update on the locos for Chart Sutton and their origins, plus a bonus neverwazza Q1: chopped around Wrenn R1 body on a K's 14xx chassis and scratchbuilt bogie. Remotored with an X04 motor. The story is that the cab was damaged and replaced with a pagoda cab which is why it has escaped being scrapped after the rest of the class was gone by 1930 C: GBL body on Airfix 4F chassis. The main loco for goods traffic on the branch R1: Wrenn body, either Wrenn or Dublo chassis. Used for goods or short passenger work T: modified Mainline J72 on its original chassis. Need to find the missing coupling rods and crank pins. Mostly used for shunting but occasionally used in an emergency for passenger trains Boughton Quarry shunter: modified Nellie body on Bachmann junior chassis. Used by the local quarry on its trains ?: modified Dublo R1 body on an R1 chassis with scratchbuilt pony truck. Needs motor and pickup plate. One off conversion of an R1 into an 0-6-2 I also have a plan for another loco bought by the branch before it was absorbed into the Southern, so watch this space!
Sophia NSE
A bit more work done to the R1, including a little major surgery. If you look very closely you can see what I did
Sophia NSE
I wasn't entirely happy with the boiler bands on the T class, so I replaced them with thinner ones which is a big improvement And then we get to this... While I'm happy with the Q1, it's just a representation of the class. This time I wanted to make one closer to the prototype. The tanks are shorter and it will need a scratchbuilt cab, which I'll be attempting in plasticard. Also the buffer beams will be made from plasticard as they are much thinner than those on the R1

Sophia NSE
A cheap spares/repair J72 has given up its wheelset and the T class is slowly nearing completion The newest Q1 attempt has gained a cab cut up from a pair of J72 cabs and now looks more like a loco Still a bit of a Frankenstein's monster but should improve with some more filler and a coat of primer 4

Sophia NSE
Managed to drop the Chart Sutton branch coaches down to a more acceptable level. Time to work on the couplings next Also, I will not paint the Q1 wartime grey, I will not paint the Q1 wartime grey, I will not paint the Q1 wartime grey...
Sophia NSE
I painted the Q1 wartime grey I blame too much lurking in the pre grouping section and being convinced by @BlueLightning! Next to it is a new addition to the Chart Sutton branch; a director's saloon An idea shamelessly stolen from @Skinnylinny, slightly altered and given a coat of paint to represent SECR livery
RMweb Premium uax6 Posted October 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 14, 2021 What I'd do with that saloon, would be to create another saloon portion in one of the ends, complete with windows in the end. The other end could be cut back one compartment to become a veranda, complete with little iron railings.... Andy G

Hi Sophia, Wrenn basically used the same slightly modified chassis on their R1 and N2 engines by mounting a separately fitted back plate on the N2. So an 0-6-2 engine with a bit of fettling of the body is easily done for this chassis. As you can see from my earlier post here. Plus here are some piccy's of my repainted R1. I do have 2 others both boxed and mint. The Southern Railways 1127 olive green engine and the Silver Shell engine.
Sophia NSE
Today the Q1 went on a visit Also a fabulous time was had on the Bluebell Railway with @BlueLightningand @Skinnylinny. Gary was also kind enough to donate his bashed C class, so thank you to him for that!
