Sophia NSE
No modelling done today, but I did pop into my local model shop after work to get some flexitrack for my layout. It took me a bit of courage to go inside as I find this kind of thing quite intimidating being of the female persuasion. Turns out I had nothing to worry about and got my 3 pieces of track, only being charged for 2!
Sophia NSE
I can hear you now..."'Ere, why's she cut off the extended bunker just to put the old one back on??? Dozy mare makes no sense" Ahaha! An extension of the extension! Also a plasticard pony truck. You see where this is going, eh, eh? Should keep me out of mischief and a whole new loco without spending any extra money. Yet... 5

Sophia NSE
With these buffers she is really spoiling me! That's not fair, I haven't got mine yet! (That will be because one of them has gone walkabout!) The WKR has black locos now as getting the shade of green I wanted was a right pain in the proverbial For a little while the Q1 was on the naughty step as the rear appeared to be too high. Turned out that the front was too low so a hidden plasticard spacer was inserted. Exactly the same issue was found with the new loco (I really must give it a class. Is S taken?) so that too has had the spacer bodge *ahem* improvement. Now all it needs is the motor and pickup plate to be a working loco. Oh and I forgot to mention that the possibly named S class has had the chop at the front of the footplate to bring it (roughly) into line with the Q1 Edited September 20, 2020 by Sophia NSE Extra information
73c
The Southern had an S class 0-6-0 saddle tank, if I remember rightly.
cypherman
Hi all, 73c they only had one. It was a conversion from a C class tender engine. Here is a picture of it and some pictures of my attempt at one. Edited September 20, 2020 by cypherman 4

73c
Quite fancy one of those, looks good. Wonder if a new Jinty chassis would fit. The other loco I'd like to have a go at upgrading is an L1. Edited September 21, 2020 by 73c
Sophia NSE
Hah I'd forgotten about that loco! I'll have to have another think

Here is a picture of it and some pictures of my attempt at one. Nice. Is that based on the old Triang saddle tank? I had the clockwork version in my first train set (60 years ago) - green and black. It took a flyer off the layout many years later and the chimney broke off, I never managed to glue it on straight afterwards. Like all my old Triang stuff, it was passed on to a new home. It is good to see these older models still in service.
cypherman
Hi Art, Yes it is the old Triang engine. The model was loosely based on the SECR tank.

An alternative would be similar to the Maunsell rebuild of the LBSCR E1 as an 0-6-2T, class E1R. You have effectively rebuilt an R1 to R1R class.

I think I'll stick with I class and hope for the best. Also, are they handrails?? Yes, those are handrails! And also extra holes where I didn't get it right the first time I'll do some lining with paint pens, but what/where would you recommend for transfers for letters and numbers?
cypherman
Hi Sophia, I would recommend Fox waterslide transfers. I currently have a set of Southern transfers for my repainted N15. Have used them in the past with great results.

Sophia NSE
I decided that the Q1's bogie wheels were too small, so made a new bogie for them. I also cut away a layer of the bunker to raise the floor to give the new wheels clearance. I could really do with another pair of pre blackened 14mm bogie wheels...
Sophia NSE
Once again the Q1 is on the naughty step. This time for refusing to work and then deciding to plummet to the floor losing it's front buffer beam and breaking a buffer in the process. I've resoldered the wires and still nothing
Sophia NSE
Not to blow one's own trumpet, because a lady would never do that, but she who can't solder did a thing today
Artless Bodger
Looks good. Sorry to be a dimwit, but, what does it do please? DCC? (You can tell I'm an electronics ignoramus, two wires and an on / off switch is my limit).
