brianthesnail96
If anyone finds any of any of the early 1960s road- rail Land Rover that was there for a time in the early days the current owners would be very pleased to see them!

Perhaps it was because I remember it in a rather gloomy shed with narrow aisles that I never noticed the stumpy tender at the time. Hi doilum Did you ever manage to find out about the tender? If you missed it, on 22nd April ajwffc provided a link to a site which explained. (Sorry, I'm not sure how to add a live link to this post) Now, back to early pictures... I've Just scanned some more old b&w negs which I unearthed: 0-6-0ST No 62 waits to leave Keighley on 29th May 1972... ...then struggles to get away up the bank A couple of years later 'Black Five' 45212 was in action: Leaving Keighley on 15th June 1974 and at Oakworth Trevor
RMweb Premium Compound2632 Posted May 14, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 14, 2020 Very nice photos; the b/w ones are especially atmospheric. I must confess I came here because I was misled by the topic title - I thought I was going to be shown some newly-discovered Victorian photographs!
luckymucklebackit
Here is a couple from 21st August 1993' A group of friends and I went on a SRPS railtour from Falkirk to Keighley. With the plan being to run the train straight onto the branch and have KWVR locos to take the railtour set up and down the branch The only disappointment of the tour was that the rostered locomotives for haulage of the railtour stock over the KWVR were “Jinty” 0-6-0T No. 47279 and Br Std 2-6-0 No.78022, but the mogul had failed that morning and there was no available steam replacement. The train was therefore hauled up the valley with the interesting combination of 47279 leading ex BR class 25 diesel No D5209 and returned with 47279 working alone. All was not lost as the KWVR kindly allowed any railtour ticket holders a trip on a regular service hauled by Black 5 no. 5305. Just after arrival at Keighley, the railtour loco 47715 uncouples and heads for a siding to await the return After the run up the branch 47279 rubs round to take the train back to Keighley, leaving D5209 to move into the sidings. RMweb Premium uax6 Posted July 15, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 15, 2020 The Met-cam buffet car is actually the sole remaining class 111 vehicle, and has been rebuilt for service on the GCR. RMweb Premium MrTea Posted October 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 18, 2020 (edited) I’ve just discovered this thread. Loving the nostalgic images from West Yorkshire! My Dad gave me a memory stick with a load of his slides taken at the Worth Valley from the 1980s and 90s so I’ll post up some of the images and hopefully between us we’ll be able to fill in the blanks. I started visiting the railway in the late 1970s and it was a regular weekend excursion for us until I left home for Uni in 1995. This is one of the earliest images featuring an ochre-liveried USATC No. 72 and the aforementioned Met-Cam buffet car. I’m pretty sure that this is pulling into the platform at Haworth in 1978. RMweb Premium MrTea Posted October 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 18, 2020 Another of my fondest memories is of the steam galas or ‘Enthusiasts’ weekends’ as I seem to remember them being called. You’d get plenty of double heading, visiting locos and even the ‘express’ which ran non-stop from Keighley to Haworth. K1 2005 and 4F 43924 at Keighley. NELPG’s K1 in platform 4 at Keighley before setting off. 2005 running round at Keighley. 2005 and S&L Ugly No. 62 ‘Corby’ in the extended headshunt at Oxenhope. I think this was spring 1982.
RMweb Premium MrTea Posted October 19, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 19, 2020 Here’s a few more featuring one of my favourite locos Bulleid light pacific 34092 ‘City of Wells’: Running round to join the train at Keighley station. Awaiting the ‘right away’... ‘The Volcano’ erupts! It was always fun on the gradient out of Keighley on damp or misty days as locos struggled for grip getting their trains moving on the curve. The arrangement of the buildings and the valley side channeling the sound of the exhaust as it reverberated around. View of the front of the loco running round at Oxenhope.
cactustrain
The Dub Dee had it's original tender when it came from Sweden, but it was cut down by them to six wheels so the loco could fit onto their turntables. The loco is now back in original condition apart from the suspension, which retains some modifications made to it in Sweden.
RMweb Premium MrTea Posted October 20, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2020 Today I thought I’d post some images of one of my other favourite locos I remember from visits to the line in the 1980s - USATC S160 2-8-0 5820 AKA ‘Big Jim’. Simmering at the end of platform 4 at Keighley awaiting an afternoon departure. Pulling into Haworth piloting another loco. Running round at Oxenhope. A shot across the valley with 5820 in the distance rolling down the valley past Damems Junction signal box (the main passing loop on the line). If you’re a fan of ‘Big Jim’ too, a great way to experience a ride on the KWVR behind the loco is this video on YouTube from Linesider Video: It covers a non-stop run from Keighley to Haworth. Enjoy!

RMweb Premium MrTea Posted October 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 22, 2020 Looking through the photos I have, I thought I’d take a different slant today - tank locos. Growing up I always enjoyed days out at the KWVR most when one of the big engines (34092, 5820, 8431 etc.) was running. However the Worth Valley is a branch line and occasionally, for example in the spring or autumn, smaller locos would feature on the service trains. The smallest loco on the line ‘Lord Mayor’ at Haworth. This is now in the VCT museum at Ingrow. Another resident at Ingrow, this time courtesy of the BLS, is Webb Coal Tank 1054. This images is from the engine’s first period of service on the line after 1990. 1054 drifts into Keighley on a vintage shuttle (possibly at one of the gala weekends). I think this is 57xx pannier tank L89, certainly it’s the correct LT maroon livery, but I’m not sure when this was taken? I remember 5775 being out of service for quite some time and then running in both Railway Children GN&SR ochre and then BR unlined green. A visiting pannier tank no. 7752 pulling in to Oxenhope. 7752 again, this time in platform 3 at Keighley station.
RMweb Premium MrTea Posted October 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 23, 2020 For all the variety of motive power in the last few posts I do also remember a period of a few years where it felt very much like every time we went there was one loco in steam - BR Standard 4 75078! I guess this must be a perfect size of loco for the line for hauling 5 or 6 coaches economically? And I suppose it’s a relatively new engine, even though it’s getting on for 70, compared to some of the others available. This must be early to mid-1980s as the Met-Cam buffet car is in service albeit repainted into lined maroon. 75078 viewed from the end of platform 3 at Keighley. Wider shot with two young enthusiasts taking in the view. Check out the socks and sandals on me and my younger brother! 75078 has a high-sided tender and a double chimney as it was an engine allocated to the Southern region. Although the engine isn’t really dirty in this shot I particularly like the way the camera captured the condensation on the tender side and the dirt on the cab roof. You can tell this is a 1980s photo from the driver’s facial furniture - it’s the previous time full beards were ‘in’!
RMweb Premium MrTea Posted October 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 24, 2020 Thought I’d post a few pics of the line’s stalwart Ivatt 2MT 41241 today. Approaching Oxenhope on an 80s gala weekend. Oozing atmosphere in the carriage sidings at Oxenhope. A slightly unusual angle, running round at Keighley station. Viewed from the end of platform 4 near the old (VCT?) shop.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted October 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 24, 2020 I have some rather grim photos from 'a while back'......sorry about the quality. Big Jim erupting from Keighley 5775 running around at Keighley Brussels passing Howarth shed 'Mighty Mouse' Hamburg at Haworth Makes me realise how old I am!

I’d forgotten about no. 31 ‘Hamburg’. That’s now at the East Lancs isn’t it? I remember LMR 118 ‘Brussels’ running in the early 1980s especially during the coal strike as the loco was oil-fired at that point.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted October 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 24, 2020 Yes I think Hamburg was at the East Lancs, not sure if it still is, they also had another of the same class there IIRC? I'd say the Brussels photo is 1982 or 3, yes. They're scans of poor slides so no dating data to go on. One photo has a young Mrs NHN in it on the 4F that may be around the same time, I think it around the time just before we married (early 84) so maybe 83. Ugly 62 was bought by my mate John and taken to the East Lands, then to the NYMR briefly. He sold it to buy a share in Taw Valley. I didn't know him then unfortunately! Some other random shots....
RMweb Premium MrTea Posted October 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 30, 2020 Another 2-8-0 today, Stanier 8F (4)8431. Rolling up to collect the train at Oxenhope. Awaiting the right-away. Running around the train at Keighley. The rails look quite rusty in platform 3 in this shot. Pulling up the bank at Keighley. Always enjoyed the view out of the window from the rear coach of the set as the loco struggled to lift the train up the gradient and around the curve. Further up the line towards Ingrow West. Interesting to see the train is made up mostly of compartment stock - they’re making a comeback on the railway in 2020 due to COVID-19. A later shot of 48431, this time in BR livery, leaving Keighley station. The loco catches the evening sun as the train eases round the curve. An atmospheric shot as the 8F heads past and up the valley. Leaving Ingrow West with a full head of steam. An early nineties view of 48431 at Oxenhope. By this time the loco was paired with a Fowler tender. Obligatory shot of me with the loco!
