Popular Post CDGfife
Having joined the 2mm Scale Association at Stevenage in January (we were down there with Burntisland 1883), I bought a "starter pack" of easitrack and 16t mineral wagon to have a play with. To get my hand in to the scale and also as an exercise to try out building techniques with the new laser cutter, I drew up Bridestowe station and created a little diorama: The 2/3 portion of track to the left is Easitrack with the 1/3 section to the right using the etched chairs and pcb sleepers from the 2mm shop. I'd also bought some versaline and easitrack chairs to try out but was quite pleased with the match of these and the ease of construction so I think I will stick with this system. Ballast is Attwoods Meldon. Most of this uses Scalescenes downloads mounted on laser cut card layers. For the roof on the back of the single story wing I switched from the scalescenes tiles to laser cut tiles on brown label paper. Haven't got round to finishing the last bit over the porch and it still needs guttering & detailling etc! Also had a go at the mineral wagon (the skew is an optical illusion from the camera which was right on it's focal limit!): I found the underframe really pleasing to make up - easier in fact than some 4mm stuff I've built. CDGfife
Thanks for the likes folks and also Gareth for the comment. Nice to see a familiar name here from the S4 forum! Having enjoyed the mineral wagon I ordered some underframes for a couple of N Gauge vans I had already bought a while ago. The bodies were duly removed from their chassis and the new underframes made up. Bit of weathering also helps! Having got this far I have concluded that what I want to achieve can be done at this scale and so thoughts turned to a small layout to use as a learning exercise (although that has also always been the thinking behind my Cadhay 4mm layout). More on the plan later when I get the time to start a thread for it so I can document it's progress. I did this with Cadhay on the Scalefour forum and have always found it very good to be able to scroll back and see the progress, so that is my intention here. Caley Jim
Having seen this building and his other laser cut ones at our last (however not THE last) area group meeting, we were all most impressed and look forward to seeing more.
