Has This Layout Got "Legs?"

I began a discussion regarding the probable dimensions of a shelf layout.  

 

It has since developed into a discussion about the design of the layout and if it is "interesting" enough...

 

The layout is 'N' gauge, about 8 feet in length and about 1 foot in depth.

 

I'm grateful to Wirey for his input and helpful ideas.  At his suggestion I have added two kickback sidings, I'm interested to know what peoples ideas are re: suitable operations for this layout and it's fitness for purpose, before I get in with building it...

 

My rolling stock is mainly passenger based late 70's BR and a few mineral wagons and a pair of class 08 shunters.
