Brislington

Brislington is a small GWR branch line, measuring approx 240 X 40 cm, plus a fiddle yard around a further 90 cm. There is already a Cider siding, but I thought about adding a further one, a small dairy for milk traffic. As I haven't enough space to set up a longer layout at home, I though about a self contained one, which would be separate, but could be attached to the Brislington boards, which could be set up outside. I would normally build the complete baseboard, including the back-scene first, but as the DIY stores are now closed, had to work with what I had available, so just started with the base board. This is where I am at the moment. The extension also includes a narrow gauge station.

Re-painted the buildings. Pleased with the finish now. Just have to complete the roofs & chimneys.

IMG_4571.jpg.da854003e91d02b1a3d9425a1e136a1f.jpgAlso, the Dairy siding is nearly complete. Just have to add the pipework, roof & railings on the wall. Need to then start on the ballasting. I always leave until most of the groundwork has been done.

All this came about from a post last year, re the morning milk train. I realised it didn't have anywhere to originate from, or return to. Back in work for the last few weeks, so not much done on the extension.

Standard Gauge now ballasted, Dairy almost finished and new station building built for the Narrow Gauge. I was going to use one of the Wills Kits for this, but it just looked too big.

Now that the DIY stores are back open, I should be able to get the timber to finish the backscene (if my bladder can stand the wait in the queues !!!)

The extension above, will link in here, but be self contained, so I can set up separately, where space permits.Exit.jpg.5d9eff00bec7968abfcdd91e86b4ec6d.jpg

Works Train awaiting the road to proceed into Brislington. All services today, Sunday,  have been cancelled due to timbers being replaced.IMG_4887.jpg.409c55160d4e138cd59ed78b429bb235.jpg

An extra service has been added to the Narrow Gauge out of Brislington. Although, an extra 10 mins walk for potential passengers.

Haven't posted anything in quite some time. However, added another Oxford Dean Goods before Christmas, to help with passenger duties.

I've also built another Ratio 4 Wheel Brake, to complete this local, with 2 Hornby Clerestories.

I've used etched brass handles on this one.Brake.jpg.927566fbc066cb530d3208a6235a0c3e.jpg

Had done very little in the last while. But started back to try and finish a few jobs.

The extension, which is now "Lower Brislington", is nearly finished. Back Scene in place. Just some more foliage/detailing to complete.

Have to say, I'm getting more use out of this section, than the main Brislington one. As it's a short walk outside of Brislington, there's

a limited Bus service laid on from the Narrow Gauge Station, in to town.

So, from the entry left side :

Exit right.

Overall shot. Have to sort out some sort of facia for the front.

Overall, very pleased with the way it's turned out so far.

Finally bit the bullet, and took over part of a spare room we have.

Didn't have space to set up permanently, so, starting with the frame,

and installed each of the sections.

Only problem is very little fiddle yard space. To run a service, will have to wait until better weather, and set up outside.

Anyway, not really a problem, as I prefer building to running, but at least now, I have to option of testing etc.

Now I can get on with the rest of the detailing.

Just Dark Earth spray from a rattle can, and then ballast.

Some parts needed a bit of touch up afterwards with a brush, but not much.

All the Standard Gauge is SMP, purchased around 35 years ago. I believe it was called "Mark 2" then.

The narrow gauge is also around the same vintage, when the only 009 lengths were in 18" lengths.

The 2 009 Points, are the only recent purchases.

Hi Graham,

With both boards set up side by side, the original Brislington one, with the painted background, show up against the Printed one, on the new section. Going to try and increase the foliage etc, and see if it makes a difference.

As my posting was done from my work computer, and I'm now getting ready to retire, I'm unable to re-link any of my photos. So, here are some recent ones to be getting on with.
