Popular Post MarkC
I've just heard that Dave Alexander has reportedly passed away. Another of life's gentlemen has left us. Thank you Dave, for your friendship, your models and for just being a nice guy. Condolences to his family and friends. Mark 1
Popular Post charliepetty
Yes sadly that is correct, I had hoped to visit him about 3 weeks ago while at the Jarrow show, but I was told he had to go into a care home. he has recently just had his 84th birthday, the message I got this evening was: Hello Charlie, Bad news, Dave Alexander has died. I would have attended his funeral but, as the attached message says, we are not able to travel at the present time. He was a nice bloke and very knowledgeable in engineering and associated NER and other model railway matters. The hobby has lost a ‘good ‘un’ and he will be missed by the members of the north east branch of the EM Gauge society I belong to. ......................................................................................................................................... I got to know Dave about 25 years ago, a man of many bad jokes & brilliant models. He was his own man and ran his company making Steam & Diesel loco kits in whitemetal, he was a pattern maker and in my opinion an all round good guy. I will miss his smiling face, his dogs and of course his sense of humour and blunt honesty. A great guy. Very sad. RMweb Gold Bucoops Posted April 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2020 Very sad to see this Had a couple of chats with Dave in recent times. He wasn't able to assist but was a very nice chap to talk to. The hobby has lost a true gent.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted April 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2020 So sad to read this, Dave was always ready for a natter at shows. I've built a fair few of his kits and his experience as a pattern maker was obvious, everything fitted where it should with the minimum of fettling, they weren't 'state of the art' but they didn't need to be, they were just well engineered by someone who knew what they were doing. RIP Dave, you will be missed.

RIP Dave, you will be missed. I only spoke to Dave on a few occasions, and we never met. Nonetheless, you know when you are speaking to a fellow modeller - as opposed to someone who just wants to sell you something - and Dave was that person. Interested in your project; keen to give advice; and generous to a fault with whatever he had available that might help. The hobby is deprived of one of its good 'uns. This will be my personal memorial to him. RIP Dave. John Isherwood. Edited April 21, 2020 by cctransuk 9 1 2

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted April 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 22, 2020 (edited) I only chatted to him once over the phone - a nice guy. His kits filled a welcome gap back in the day. Here's three of them from 15 years ago to remind us of what he did for us. johndon
It was the release of Dave's Consett Iron Hoppers that made it practical for me to make my current layout: 6

Geordie Nigel
Sad to hear of the passing of Dave Alexander. I first came across him when I was a schoolboy and he used to run The Model Shop in Laygate, South Shields. I regularly saw him at model railway exhibitions around the North East of England and the last time I saw him was at Workshop Wise, Stannington last October. He has therefore been known to me for a very long time and will be a miss.
