Hornby bare wires?

Recommended Posts

Well, I was also going to post that picture and ask "Would you buy one?"

It beggars the imagination that the retailer concerned would actually post such a picture.  Unbelievable..  Do Hornby prefitted locos come with decoders like this?  Only one thing to do - rewire it yourself and possibly make use of the other capabilities available eg forward & reverse lights.

Looks like one I prepared earlier.

Even 'Blue Peter' would have done a better job of this ....

I note that there are now two threads about this.

Regards,

Alex.

the soldering on the box standard decoders has always left a lot to be desired, clearly the person who soldered that wasn't surface mount trained ;)

They've probably had the 'you must do 500 an hour' training ...

The bod who does the product photography probably went along to the development dept and asked if there was an example that could be photographed for the web page and was given one from the dead parts bin...

Ah, this is the latest Hornby challenge.

Firstly, poke the assembly operator in the eye with a pointy stick, and the first one past the 100 units gets a postcard of Whitstable in the rain.

Productivity; it's a wonderful thing....

Pity the poor fools who buy this trash.

.

As has been pointed out on the other thread about this image, this is not what the production chips look like,

But, as has also been pointed out, this is Hornby's own publicity image:

Most companies would use the best image they could produce to promote the product. So what are we supposed to think, when this is the chosen image?

They've used the same scabby PCA photo for the other 4 pin decoder (didn't know there were two) as well:-

It's the same decoder. Previously it was only available as a spare part hence the "X" product code. The new release is just it being made available as a standard "R" coded retail item. I imagine it'll probably mean the packaging upgrades from an anti static bag to a box but these days who knows...

but on the Hornby site they have just airbrushed in on the graphic some extra insulation on the wires......really?
