I think the point is the standard of solder connection of the 4 wires to the chip, Ian, which even Luddites like us can see is of an unacceptable standard. The wires need to be trimmed closer to the insulation and re-soldered so that there is no chance of as short; there is every chance of a short as is, and probably is one between the red and yellow.
