Many people are afraid that their partners might find out that they're viewing porn and so might be tempted to pay some money, as a lesser risk! Especially if the type of porn that they have been viewing, rates very poorly amongst community standards, such as, but not limited to kiddy porn.

I suppose it's slightly reassuring that the scam didn't mention that particular sort, because it means the criminals don't think there's enough people who would find it believable enough that they've been caught doing so for it to be an effective blackmail attempt.

Alright; OK; it was me.

I can't help it...

Minding my own business, I let my guard down....

Next thing I know, there's railway programmes on the telly, and before the watershed! I tried to join Bradshaws Anonymous, but it's no good! Every time I go into the room, I start to wonder.... "I wonder, only a little peek..." And then it starts.... Possessions,  Single Line workings, Rule 55, Operating Envelope....

The latest one is "Jennifer On Bi-Di. "  I wonder what that's about.....?

Next months release sounds interesting. It's about bondage...

"Curvy Alison on chains...."

Maybe they should start targetting celebrities then........

What is worrying is that enough people must take the bait to justify these ejits bothering to try the scam.

It's rather sad that they assume that "if you have a computer you view porn", judging others by their own standards I assume.

That said, one of the 'fly-on-the-wall' Police documentaries had a couple of coppers visiting an elderly lady who was terrified by such an e-mail, they sought to reassure here, but it is a serious 'threat' to some people.

jh

The foundation of the threat is not that they believe the victim actually watches porn, but that he or she would horrified if they were publically accused of watching porn.

I’ve had the email, I did create an account for Railcam though I only logged on once and then asked for the account to be deleted as I didn’t want to upgrade to a subscription.  Luckily the password quoted is not a current one with any other accounts I have so it is either Railcam or another old combination.

Lets hope I’m not internet famous in 24 hours.

The hack on Railcam was towards the end of 2018, the data that was stolen started being hawked around the disreputable websites in early 2019

The thing that you don't get without a sub are the diagrams, 43 of 79 cameras are free (some are also hosted elsewhere)

I seem to recall that once I'd registered I was not happy about something so I contacted them and asked them to delete the account which they said they had - clearly not.  I am about to go on the site to see what accounts I have had that have been hacked, the good news is that the password they quoted is not in play with any other accounts, I also cannot remember if I used it with Railcam.

I was also on LinkedIn at the time of their hack and the password quoted on today's message may have been mine at that time (I instantly changed it when that hack was reported.)  I do still use this password on RMWeb (and only that) so wondered if it the beach was on this site.  I was more concerned that any keytracker on my laptop would allow someone to log on to my work accounts, for that I would NOT be popular.

So, good to know (and not good, obviously because I don't want anyone to be threatened with this sort of thing) that it's clearly just "doing the rounds".

I've been onto LinkedIn again this evening to see how it all looks, I've not been on I don't think in 3-4 years - and there it was just like it used to be, backslapping for business people and I had a message from someone I used to work with - what was it - a link to a Google Drive account and a 'Well you might find this interesting......' strapline - clearly some people didn't read the email about the great hack.

I wonder if Linkedin even has a purpose for me now, next job might be very different to the past.

I still use LinkedIn - it got me a job at my current employer - but it is funny how some people use it and I agree about the mutual backslapping.

Like Facebook some people treat it as a popularity contest, the more connections the better.  Anyone working in recruitment can be spotted by their "500+ connections", of which I'm sure they'd struggle to recognise six of if they were in a room with them.

Enormous numbers of people use it to try and sell their "game-changing" consultancy services, usually trying to weazel their way into large companies by trying to link to anyone who works for that company.

Personally I will only accept a connection with someone I have actually worked with, so having worked at the same company at the same time isn't enough to get my attention.  Unless I remember you and remember WHY I know you, I don't see the point.  Quality over Quantity....

The dead giveaway it's a fake was when they threatened to tell all my friends i watch porn, which made me laugh as they both know already.

Did they do something like send you a confirmation of your password by email in plain text?

Join the club. The Great Linkedin Breach leaked one of my very old passwords too. It was the first one any of my emails got highlighted for. Oh, that and MySpace.

Re LinkedIn in general, it can be fun to see how people talk about themselves in the 3rd person and also for people you actually know, spotting all the lies and exaggerations of their achievements. We even had a contractor who once claimed they were our Finance Director when he was not even in a managerial role at all.
