RMweb Gold Popular Post mudmagnet Posted April 24, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 24, 2020 I have been making several different depot buildings for commissions for quite awhile now and recently have been designing these on 3D CAD so that parts can be 3D printed. I have been working on a single road depot, but with an open side so that the interior can be viewed for detailing and photography. A development will be to offer these as a complete depot, but that is another story. I've spend quite a bit of time learning the limitations of the 3D printer and what I can draw in 3D CAD, also learning how to use the CAD system. One thing that has worked successfully has been to 3D print louvres, which are a real pain to scratchbuild. I've included louvres in the side wall on the depot building. Anyway, now needing a diorama, I had a couple of Scale Model Scenery diorama boards and spare length of track. The hard standing is tile grout and painted with acrylics and tester pot paint (Wickes). I had a few pieces of ID Backscenes in a box, so was glued to the back board. The basic scenery being a couple of pieces of polystyrene and covered in Green Scenes flock and static grass. Still plenty to do on the scenic side. The fence from Scale Model Scenery. There is a scratchbuilt tank at the end of the depot, but not shown in the photos at the moment. The other building is one that I scratchbuilt a few years ago and based upon an office that once stood at Barnstaple Junction. It would appear that the centre section was once a platform mounted signal box, relocated to the yard and extended. I will be adding more details and completing the scenic works, so watch this space. 21

RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted May 3, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 3, 2020 I have started adding interior detail, with electrical conduit, light switches, sockets etc. I will take better photos later, but a taster for now. 5
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted May 4, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 4, 2020 I took a few photos over the weekend, having spend some time making up the electrical conduit etc along the rear wall. I've a few ideas for more details to add when I get chance. 8

I've designed the crane and is 3D printed in sections and assembled. I've made a few now which I've sold. I also do one in 7mm. Based upon one from Hitchin depot. RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted December 16, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 16, 2020 I've not had a great deal of time to get much done on the diorama, but have added a few of my own 3D printed items. 12
RMweb Gold jamest Posted December 17, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2020 (edited) Hi Richard, Hope all is well with you....like the new additions, you are definitely utilising the 3D printer! Love the blackboard - looks great. all the best, James Edited December 17, 2020 by jamest
RMweb Gold 97406 Posted December 17, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2020 Superb stuff! Gives me inspiration for a new depot-based mini-layout that I am working on. Not sure about the big ladder though as there’ll be 25kV shenanigans going on!
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted April 13, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 13, 2021 Not a great deal of progress to report, but I have weathered one of the class 25 from Heljan, which I renumbered and fitted sound (Legoman with a pair of speakers as there is plenty of space). 5

RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted January 3, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 3, 2022 It has been a very long time since posting any photo updates and in reality, not much modelling has been done. However, I've been working on some new 3D printed items, such as the trolleys and access steps in the photo, which I thought I would share. 8
marc smith
Looking good Richard. It may well be "not much modelling" - but it's still a heck of a lot more than yours truly has done! lol. Those trolleys and steps look really good to me. Such details are what really make a layout IMO, whether that layout is a large affair, or a small diorama. If we get chance to catch up at a show again (fingers crossed) - I'd like to buy some from you anyway, if you have any spares. Keep up the modelling mate, and Happy New Year
