Popular Post mudmagnet 7,961
I have been making several different depot buildings for commissions for quite awhile now and recently have been designing these on 3D CAD so that parts can be 3D printed. I have been working on a single road depot, but with an open side so that the interior can be viewed for detailing and photography. A development will be to offer these as a complete depot, but that is another story. I've spend quite a bit of time learning the limitations of the 3D printer and what I can draw in 3D CAD, also learning how to use the CAD system. One thing that has worked successfully has been to 3D print louvres, which are a real pain to scratchbuild. I've included louvres in the side wall on the depot building. Anyway, now needing a diorama, I had a couple of Scale Model Scenery diorama boards and spare length of track. The hard standing is tile grout and painted with acrylics and tester pot paint (Wickes). I had a few pieces of ID Backscenes in a box, so was glued to the back board. The basic scenery being a couple of pieces of polystyrene and covered in Green Scenes flock and static grass. Still plenty to do on the scenic side. The fence from Scale Model Scenery. There is a scratchbuilt tank at the end of the depot, but not shown in the photos at the moment. The other building is one that I scratchbuilt a few years ago and based upon an office that once stood at Barnstaple Junction. It would appear that the centre section was once a platform mounted signal box, relocated to the yard and extended. I will be adding more details and completing the scenic works, so watch this space. 21

There are a few photos from 70's / 80's with other "non H&S" approved, like oil drums with a couple of scaffold planks on top!
mudmagnet 7,961
I have started adding interior detail, with electrical conduit, light switches, sockets etc. I will take better photos later, but a taster for now. 5

I've designed the crane and is 3D printed in sections and assembled. I've made a few now which I've sold. I also do one in 7mm. Based upon one from Hitchin depot.

Now you come to say it, I had the one you did based on the crane at Burton WRD, but this is taller though?

mudmagnet 7,961
I've not had a great deal of time to get much done on the diorama, but have added a few of my own 3D printed items. 10

97406 69
Superb stuff! Gives me inspiration for a new depot-based mini-layout that I am working on. Not sure about the big ladder though as there’ll be 25kV shenanigans going on!
