However I've now got scanning up to 1995 and have a few oddities that have turned up. One of them is this slide of some Mk4 DVT's at Leeds. The mount is Kodak and says September 83 14. Obviously that is several years before the DVT's were built and Leeds was wired. I need to investigate further. Any clues as to the year would be welcome. The next batch are all on film The next couple I'm fairly sure at at Manchester Piccadilly. Here a 90 about to head south. And 90029 pulls in with a northbound. Then an interesting 47 31 combination coming in on a multi coloured train. Then we are back to Leeds with my younger son watching the train arrival, again the multi coloured train. Not sure what this wold have been with the mixture of Mk 2 and Mk3 stock. It could even have been a stock move to Neville Hill Finally definitely at Leeds with the quite rare sight of a 91, blunt end first about to couple onto one of the modified HST power cars with buffers for the hybrid workings before the Mk 4 sets arrived. More tomorrow. I will hopefully be sorting out some other odds and sods of negative strips today. On the family ones I'm reduced to working out what coloured anoraks the kids were wearing to try and get the photos into their correct order in a couple of cases. One day I'll discover the missing box of slides from 1970 with green Class 40's on the S& C and D400's at Crewe. might even find my never printed negatives of Oliver Cromwell at Blea Moor in August 68. Jamie Hi Jamie, the mk2 must be a barrier coach as mk4 gangways will only couple to other mk4s Love this thread thanks for sharing 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted July 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 20, 2020 (edited) Thanks for all the comments they make it worthwhile. I've got some more scanning done today and with the help of some cousins dated a batch from 1993. Someday I will find the missing slide box from the early 70's. Anyway we are still at Whitehall Road goods yard in the first half of 1990. Here a WY Metro 155 comes off the triangle, probably heading towards Bradford. I must have had a tip off as this 26 and a 47 are probably heading over the S & C. This definitely shows it as a MacRat. Another bridge replacement, this time near the southern approach to the old Ardsley shed as the bridge over Lingwell Gate Lane was being replaced. Then a 156 heading somewhere but I don't know where it was taken. Finally a works open day at Doncaster. The two boys are running towards me. Martin would be 10 and Paul 8. However when I looked at the photo I realised that I had probably snapped the unmistakeable figure of Nick Freezer crossing the tracks in front of the 37. I think he still wears that jacket today. Some more from Donny tomorrow. Jamie Edited August 4, 2022 by jamie92208

It was running as a three car then. IIRC there was some issue with the transmission being suspect as the gear changes were very rough. They only lasted in service for about four or five years before lurking on in store around Derby and Crewe for about 15 years before eventually being scrapped. They were stored at Llandudno Junction for a few years. Then moved to Derby and later Crewe, pending re-use, which never happened. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted July 23, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 23, 2020 (edited) A quiet but warm afternoon so time to put a few more photos up. Still in early 1990 at Doncaster and a shot inside the repair shop, was this The Crimpsall. I wonder how many of these locos still exist. Then probably in June 1990. I had to travel to Taunton to meet some software contractors and one evening had a trip to Merehead to see the 59's. These two were outside the shed along with the 08. I didn't see the American switcher unfortunately. And another shot of the two outside the shed. Then, on my way back I called at Loughborough to see if there were any new 60's in the yard at the back. Sorry about the bit of chain link fence. Hopefully some more tomorrow Jamie Edited August 4, 2022 by jamie92208

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted July 25, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2020 (edited) Good evening from a rather cooler Charente. After a rather hectic day, for various reasons it's now time to relax with a glass of Glenlivet and upload a few more photos. We now move into 1991. At the time I was making quite regular trips up and down the M1 in connection with a computer project that I was involved in, firstly to Taunton then Farnborough as well as other places. Rugby was a convenient stop off point for a coffee and my colleague got quite used to such stops. Here a class 90 heads north with a freight. I think it's a nuclear flask movement. And then heads north. Back in West Yorkshire and these ancient Class 307 units appeared working Doncaster to Leeds Locals. I'm fairly certain this was at the newly opened Outwood station. Next we are at Stratford I think on a shed visit arranged by a helpful BTP officer who had been on a course at Wakefield. Next a 56, 59,47 combo I think also at Stratford though it could possibly have been Old Oak. And finally a visit to Beamish always a good day out usually with My wife's Uncle or cousin from Sunderland when we visited. Hopefully more tomorrow. Fat Controller
The vehicle behind the Class 90 is a nuclear flask wagon, used to bring spent fuel rods from power stations in France and Germany to Windscale as part of the THORP project. The traffic went by train ferry, and stopped when the Channel Tunnel opened to wagon-load freight in 1995.

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted July 27, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 27, 2020 (edited) Good evening, it's warm and dark here. However the Tardis is still moving on slowly I've just scanned my negatives from 1996 so have plenty of material to keep going. The first is at Beamish with a shot of the station I can't remember the name but think it began with an R. I've just noticed the Sheffield Tram in the background. Then a trip to Ravenglass and my favourite loco River Irt with Martin and Paul in the cab. I spent many happy hours in that shed lighting up and engine cleaning. I wore clogs that I bought in Whitehaven, very comfortable and didn't mind the dirt, oil and cinders. Then another trip to Holgate Bridge at York with a Metro 158 heading south. This is probably May 1991. And then an HST in the Inter City Livery. Finally up to my home town, the border city, Carlisle with a 156 heading in. probably from Newcastle We've now moved on to early 1992. And Finally 1 31 and 47 parked against the west wall. More to come. Jamie Edited August 4, 2022 by jamie92208

This was just down the road from the site, either Dr Syn or Winston Churchill. Of course construction of the Channel Tunnel was in full swing so here are some of the smaller locos helping the construction. And a broader view of the Cheriton terminal with the exhibition centre in the background. Another shot of the RHDR, not sure which loco it is. And finally New Romney station. More to come. RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted July 30, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 30, 2020 (edited) Good moaning, just, from a rather warm Charente. A good evening's trainspotting was had last night and our new pool is finally starting to fill up without any apparent leaks so I've time to post some more photos. The Tardis has been reversed I I realised that I'd missed some slides that I took in 1991. First off the ferries of the time soon to have severe competition. This batch were all taken late July/early August 1991. Then we visited the exhibition centre at Cheriton and the 1880's tunnelling machine that had been recued from it's chalky grave by TML. Then the one from, I believe, the 1920's attempt that was entombed in the cliffs above Folkestone. Finally Finally one of the 1980's ones that had bored from Folkestone to Cheriton. I seem to remember that when it's twin was being lifted out it got dropped and the 500 ton machine caused a measurable earthquake in the area. Then to Leeds and a 307 coming in from Doncaster. I seem to remember that West Yorks got some other ex Eastern region units until the 333's came along when the Aire Valley scheme went live but the order for extra 323's had been scuppered by privatisation. Finally a visit to Crew Electric depot and a line up of early series electrics probably due for scrap. More to come.
