RMweb Premium keefer Posted November 19, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 19, 2020 (edited) For some reason, the shots of the 92 and 66 look like they're on an impressive garden layout! Looking down over the car park wall seems like as if over the garden wall. Edited November 19, 2020 by keefer 1
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 20, 2020 (edited) Good morning, the digital files are gradually being sorted. They were recovered from a hard drive and were not well filed. One of my jobs is to sort the files out and get them into proper order however here are some from 6th March 2009. The day started as usual at Doncaster, after picking Keith up en-route. At Donny we saw a 180 heading south and this Hull Trains Meridian was heading north. From the Cross we headed east to Shenfield. Next we headed for Southminster and the branch terminus there. Then back to what I think is Wickford to change trains. Southend Victoria was our next target. That nicely ticked off page 36 and 37. Hopefully some more tomorrow. sb67
Nice set of pic's there Jamie, although that being my neck of the woods I might be a bit biased! Good to see a pic of the Shenfield shark too
great central
The Hull trains class 222s were known as Pioneers if memory serves, only becoming Meridians when absorbed into the EMT fleet. Simply a different paint job and interior refit to match the rest. 1

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 21, 2020 (edited) Good afternoon everyone. We've travelled back in time to 30th October 2008 now as I found some more groups of files. A trip to East Anglia was the agenda for the day. From memory we drove down the A1 to Stamford and caught a train there with some sort of Rover ticket. Here a Cross Country 170 heads north west whilst we wait for our train. That train took us to Cambridge where we changed for Stanstead Airport. Not many railway platforms with a view of an airport control tower. Then it was down to Broxbourne to catch a direct train back to Cambridge to ride all three sides of the triangle. Then a train to Hitchin where a Mk 4 91 set headed south past us. The last bit of new trackage was Cambridge to Kings Lynn on a 365. Another grand day out and two more pages crossed off in the atlas. It helps keep retirement happy. RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 21, 2020 (edited) Thanks again for correcting my forgettery. I do remember driving to Stamford but also have some vague memories of driving across part of East Anglia. It was probably to get us to where a Rover ticket became valid. Thanks for the corrections. RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 22, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 22, 2020 (edited) Good morning again. We now get back into 2009 and I needed to clear the more remote Scottish Lines which my mate Keith had done many years before. Therefore with permission from the domestic authorities I set off one morning from Leeds heading for the town of my birth. I was heading for the one train a day that went direct from Carlisle to Stranraer and had a while to wait in the border city. First task though was to buy my 4 day Freedom of Scotland rover ticket with a good senior discount . However plenty was happening. First a southbound coal train off the Wessie Then a northbound freight with an EWS 66. Soon it was time to board my 156 which was waiting. That took me to Stranraer. I had enough time there to get and eat some very good fish and chips and admire the scenery. Then it was time to head for the big city for my first night. Two more pages completed that day. More tomorrow Jamie Edited August 7, 2022 by jamie92208
BokStein
Some great photos, Jamie! On 23/10/2020 at 11:32, jamie92208 said: Good morning, [snip] Then came Littlehampton Followed by Bognor Regis, but no visit to Squires. Then a bit of time at Barnham with it's lovely box. And both Sothern and South wewstern trains. Lot of lines on page 11 were crossed off but we didn't finish that page till 2009. 27 completed so far. What a way to spend retirement. Jamie The Barnham signal box now rests in the grounds of Aldingbourne Community Centre as the home of Bognor Regis Model Railway Club! Your photo predates my time in Barnham! Looks like signal BH117 (in the photo, the disc between the tracks) has now been replaced with a colour light signal on Platform 3. Littlehampton station doesn't seem to have changed much since your photos; semaphore signals are still in use. BTW, your caption "Followed by Bognor Regis, but no visit to Squires." shows Littlehampton station!

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 24, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 24, 2020 (edited) Good evening, a few more for you. It's still 14th may 2009 and we are still at Stranraer. Still quite a lot of trackage on the pier though it didn't look as if it got much use. 1The train waited for the ferry from Larne to appear. It isn't often you get the chance to photograph the setting sun underneath a ship. Then the train back to Glasgow and booked into the Comfort inn overlooking the station. I had a good view of the sleeper loco out of my bedroom window. Up early the next morning to the extent that the breakfast wasn't even being served but I managed to scrounge enough to put me on. Then a brisk walk across the city to Queen Street and caught an early train to Inverness with a glorious run up the glens. Then just in time to catch a train to Wick and Thurso. At Invergordon there were oil rigs sitting in the Cromarty Firth. I think this one is also at Invergordon. Then to what I think is Helmsdale with a rather lonely signal box. All in all a good day so far. Jamie Edited August 7, 2022 by jamie92208
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 25, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 25, 2020 (edited) Good afternoon, it's still 15th April 2009 and I am heading north from Helmsdale. Here, I think we were at Forsinard waiting for a southbound service, up in the floe country. Which arrived shortly. Then to Georgemas junction. Waiting for the right away to Thurso. And eventually we arrived at Thurso. Apart from a few Industrial railway on the Orkneys I couldn't get any further north by rail. Thoughts were had of all the thousands of sailors who disembarked here to get to Scapa. Jamie Edited August 7, 2022 by jamie92208
caradoc
Regarding Stranraer; A few years ago the crew of an evening arrival left their set stabled while they took their PNB, as normal, only to find when the Driver returned to the cab that someone had stolen the token ! That made for an interesting operational conundrum.....
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 26, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 26, 2020 (edited) Good afternoon. Another sunny one. However the tardis is still in the north of Scotland. At Thurso there was a rather nice Murial of a Highland Loco. Then it was back to Georgemas junction, Then reverse and off to Wick. where there was another Murial. There is still quite a bit of trackwork at Wick but not much sign of it being used and no sign of the light railway to Lybster. A pleasant walk round the town, a bite to eat in a cafe then back on the train for a nice ride south. There aren't many lines where you can see seals from the train. IIRC this is just north of Brora. More tomorrow. Jamie Edited August 7, 2022 by jamie92208

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 27, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 27, 2020 (edited) Good evening. The Tardis is still in April 2009 on the tail end of the 15th of the month. I'm still heading back towards Inverness on a 158 on the 2nd day of my Freedom of Scotland Rover. Somewhere south of Brora someone had something interesting in their garden. Then it was back to Inverness. Next morning this was the scene as I waited for a train to Kyle. The last time that I'd been in the area was 1973 on a cycling tour when I managed to get round the shed, which was full of 26's and 27's. As we moved on we passed Garve and the sight of this house brought back some very happy memories involving a group of Swedish girls. Then it was on to Kyle and at least there was some freight activity on the jetty but not railborne unfortunately. There were the remains of a wagon turntable visible under the timber. No w I need to go as some roast duck is nearly ready. Jamie Edited August 7, 2022 by jamie92208
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 28, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 28, 2020 (edited) Good evening again from the Charente. The Tardis is now on 16th January 2009. I left Kyle and headed back to Inverness. A quick change onto a southbound Edinburgh Service enabled me to travel the Hilton Junction to Ladybank Line. At Edinburgh I was met by a friend from the tram restoration world, Neil McKenzie who took me out to a bus garage to see the Edinburgh horse tram that he was helping to restore. It's now completed and has it's top deck refitted and is in The Scottish Bus Museum in Fife. A very pleasant meal at his home and then I caught a late train back to Glasgow for another night overlooking Central Station. The next morning I went north to Alloa via Stirling and completed 3 more atlas pages. It was fine till the canny Scots started reopening more lines. On the way back home this sight was seen at Appleby. I'm not sure why it was there or where it is now. A few days later I did a bike ride with a friend and we passed Drax. This was the sight of the entrance lines. Looking more like a military base after various climate change protests. Then in June my wife and I headed for the Lake District for or 30th wedding anniversary and by some strange coincidence ended up at Ravenglass. Obviously we needed a ride on the Ratty. Here Douglas Ferairra passes our train at Miteside loop with a working back down to Ravenglass. More to come tomorrow.
