GBTDAMAN
My OO Gauge DCC Layout has an extension across a window (via a lift out piece of track section) to a single point into a couple of sidings. Currently I manually operate the point, but ideally would like to motorise it. The issue I have is that the only power comes from the DCC track Bus. There is no option to have a second power source. The only point motor I could use is a surfaced mounted one. So, is there an easy and fairly cheap way of wiring up one of these point motors using the DCC Bus for power. If so what else would I need to operate it either via a switch or DCC controller and how would it be wired up. Any help appreciated. Kevin.
RAF96
you need an accessory decoder to listen to the DCC bus and tell the point motor to fire. Some point motors have an integrated decoder and one of these would be a more compact solution than having to find room for an acc decoder as well as a point motor. For the life of me I cannot recall who makes these now.
RMweb Gold RFS Posted May 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 3, 2020 You could use one of these to drive a solenoid point motor - Gaugemaster DCC81
Crosland
You shouldn't really power solenoid motors from the track bus, unless the decoder has a CDU. The suggested Gaugemaster decoder looks OK.
Judge Dread
Try "Cobalt" motors if you can get one. I have 11 on my layout and require 4 more. Everywhere seems to be out of stock but I can wait. www.dccconcepts.com is the place to try (usual denial)
