The most decrepit, derelict station photo challenge

You'd be hard pressed to guess which line the Fen Drayton sand trains used at Oakington

I hope the wagons were weighed both at origin and destination, to establish how much of the sand BR had actually delivered !

Leiston station 1975 by Blue-pelican-railway

Leiston station (1), 1975

If you like these photos and their ilk can I recommend that you spend some time browsing the Photostream of Blue-Pelican-railway as it has literally hundreds of pictures of small (and not so small) pictures of station in the early 70s-80s often in a state of disrepair. Especially interesting are ones of lines closed in the 60s, but still with the infrastructure remaining.

Two things those images have reminded me of:

1. An RM article in the early 80s on scratch-building Felixstowe Beach signal box in 4mm scale;

2. Michael Palin starting the last leg of his Round the World trip, boarding a DMU at Felixstowe Town.

I think I visited there in 71/72 as a 9/10 year old on a Lakes family holiday.

If I'm right there was a model railway operated by a club in one of the waiting rooms.

Like so many of the closures post-1968, Penrith-Keswick was a mistake.  Virtually every serious re-opening scheme (and plenty of successful preserved railways) in the UK, are lines closed after 1/1/68.

Not so decrepit these days although no trains any more.

Photo taken in 2020 on a road trip via Richmond. There is a small brewery in the modern extension but it hadnt opened at the time we were there despite the signs saying it was.
