We started off by selling detailing parts for OO gauge models and soon moved into the world of T gauge. However over the last year or so, we've moved into HO and HOe scale kits for Indian Railway prototypes. Over the last 2 years we've managed to conduct a lot of research and carry many research trips and get scale drawings and other data for over 200 Indian Railway locomotives, coaches and wagons (spanning BG, MG and NG). We won't be stopping there, we'll be moving on Sri Lankan, Malaysian and other railways that have the interest but not the kits or RTR models. To start off with, I'm posting a few pictures... KIT: PegasusDesigns & JBM Indian Railways WDP4 and WDG4 (Sr. No. JBM-BGD-010A) The kit was designed by group member Jeremiah, I then built and painted the kit and it was given a nice weathering job by Kaustav Chatterjee. We'll be using the diorama for photography and short videos. It's loosely based on a random region in southern India. Assuming these are at 1:87, what is the feasibility of altering these to suit P4 track, which would be much closer to Indian BG at that scale? As and when we upload kits for any MG or BG item, we give him dimensions for the bogies. When you place an order, you just have to tell him what kit you have ordered, he will know what bogie it requires. And the client has a few options:- - single motorized bogie + single dummy - dual motorized bogies - gauge for BG you can choose HO or P4 - bogies wired for DC or DCC. This way the motorized bogies are a standard one and the customer has an option for gauges and other things. For BG you can choose 16.5mm gauge or 18.83mm gauge For MG you can choose 12.0mm gauge or 14.2mm gauge 2 3 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Presenting Tim Shaw's work. Tim modelling the Indian Railways in 1:76 scale. He uses 22mm guage track for BG and 14.2mm gauge track for MG. His layout is called Jamalsarai and is a fictional town (taken from Jamalpur and Mughalsarai). It based in the 1970s - 80s and location wise it's in the Eastern Railway division of the Indian Railways near Calcutta. Starting off with IR BG stuff... Without trying to hijack replies, we've chosen 1:87 scale or a lot of reasons:- HO scale is the most popular scale worldwide (dominated by the North American, European and Aussie markets). Most buyers in India don't have the spending power. So they either invest in only a loco or only rolling stock and use whatever else they have. HO scale track is widely available including the type IR needs (concrete and steel sleepers). Peco make both concrete and steel sleeper tracks that IR used. HO scale spares are widely available (pantographs, couplings etc). HO scale has some of the most accurate and highly detailed spare pantographs and couplings. Many of which match what IR uses. HO scale has the largest options for mechanism, be it custom built or spares from other models/manufacturers. Companies like Locos N Stuff, Hollywood Foundry provide HO scale custom built mechanisms. We have a deal with LnS to supply motorized bogies for our BG anf MG kits, they are listed as the official supplier with details on the product pages. Our NG kits use TomyTec and Kato chassis. Those who have the skill can also go in for spares from the likes of Kato, Atlas and Athearn to build their own mechanism. Custom built TT scale bogies are impossible to get. No one that I know of makes custom built TT scale mechanisms. Those that do (Hollywood Foundry) aren't working full time anymore and cost wise it's out of most people's reach. We spent the best part of 7 years doing our research on what scale and gauge will be the most popular. We believe that we've found the best possible scale and best suppliers who can keep a majority, if not everyone happy. Mark Clark from LnS will do a custom gauge for you. He recently did a 22mm gauge pair of bogies for a client of ours who models the IR in OO scale (see the images further up the thread). In HO scale we can still recreate accurate BG and MG track. You can either build you own track or use P4 gauge to replicate BG. For MG you can build your own or use either 12mm gauge or 14.2mm gauge track. Our kits are versatile and can be adapted to use on different gauges. We've made sure that we've designed the kits such that little or no work is needed to adapt them. The bogie frames simply clip onto the motorbogies from LnS. There's enough room for gauge conversions which Mark from LnS will do for you. The market is niche and a majority of buyers aren't purists.
