MGR Hooper!
The cab reminds me a bit of this Indian Railways HHPDMU. Oddly enough this was the only HHPDMU to have this sort of cab windown style.

I had to cut out individual numbers and apply them separately to make up the Class 80 coach side numbers. The cab numbers are from a Modelmaster decal set that I had in the stash. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted May 31, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 31, 2020 (edited) Window glazing installed. I used clear acetate strips cut from old report covers. Just the interiors to build and wire up the motor for DCC. Cheers Darius Edited February 26, 2023 by Darius43 7

RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted June 1, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 1, 2020 (edited) The MIR cast metal bogies never looked quite right and this has been niggling me since they were first fitted. I bit the bullet this morning and replaced them with Hornby VEP bogies, which I think look much better. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted June 4, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2020 (edited) Motor and bogie contacts wired up to an 8 pin DCC socket. Youchoos “Thumper” sound chip, stay alive and sugar cube speaker fitted. Cheers Darius Edited February 26, 2023 by Darius43 7
RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted June 4, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2020 All looking very good , I like the speaker mount very clever, hopefully sounds the part as well. The seats look very good- just normal compartment seating with cut down back also look very effective through the clear glazing. Bogies certainly a step up in matching the details on the trailer vehicles, a good move. Thanks for showing Robert
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted June 4, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2020 Thanks Robert. The Hornby VEP bogies look so much better - thanks to Bernard TPM for the gen. Just the centre coach and driving trailer interiors to complete plus some passengers - including my Grandad and my younger self. This is a lot easier than the cocktail stick and gold enamel paint method I used previously. I just need to remember to give the gold “ink” time to dry before handling the coaches to avoid leaving gold fingerprints on the paintwork... Cheers Darius tsk tsk...odd jobs and goldfingers... 1

I used Phoenix Precision NIR blue and maroon enamel paints - thinned and airbrushed on. The VEP bogies (thanks to Bernard TPM for the information) were spare parts from eBay. You can get complete trailing bogies and the parts to make a motor bogie. alternatives are Hornby Class 73 bogies but they have moulded-on sandboxes. Hi Pat, The Hornby sideframes were cut from the Hornby bogie frame and super glued to the clip-in Bachmann bogie frame (which has its own side frames cut away. Plasticard strengthener spacers shaped to fit (the white plastic in the photos below) were glued in place above the Bachmann frame. I have another unit to make and will use a complete Hornby VEP power bogie avoid the above cutting and shutting. This will be mounted in a plasticard “inverted U frame” as per my recent MTK unit builds. RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted June 19, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 19, 2020 Looking good The hunt couplings do the job but now the inter car area is a bit bare - elastic thread and mini magnets required for all the brake pipes!
