Darius,

A quick question if I amy , whose numbers did you use in the end ?

Great job you will force me to look at mine again ! but busy with a 3mm projects at the moment.

Robert

Hi Robert,

I used the numbers on the Railtec GNRI sheet that you recommended.   I had to cut out individual numbers and apply them separately to make up the Class 80 coach side numbers.

The cab numbers are from a Modelmaster decal set that I had in the stash.

Window glazing installed.  I used clear acetate strips cut from old report covers.

The MIR cast metal bogies never looked quite right and this has been niggling me since they were first fitted.

I bit the bullet this morning and replaced them with Hornby VEP bogies, which I think look much better.

All looking very good , I like the speaker mount very clever, hopefully sounds the part as well.  The seats look very good- just normal compartment seating with cut down back also look very effective through the clear glazing.

Bogies certainly a step up in matching the details on the trailer vehicles, a good move.

Thanks for showing

Thanks Robert.  The Hornby VEP bogies look so much better - thanks to Bernard TPM for the gen.

Just the centre coach and driving trailer interiors to complete plus some passengers - including my Grandad and my younger self.

Cheers

This is a lot easier than the cocktail stick and gold enamel paint method I used previously.  I just need to remember to give the gold “ink” time to dry before handling the coaches to avoid leaving gold fingerprints on the paintwork...

Just stunning work, lots of problems along the way but you got there.

looks beautiful.

where do you get the VEP bogies and are the easy to change?

And what paint colours did you use?

I will be building one at some point so this thread will help a lot.

thanks for posting.

Thanks Pat.

I used Phoenix Precision NIR blue and maroon enamel paints - thinned and airbrushed on.  The VEP bogies (thanks to Bernard TPM for the information) were spare parts from eBay.  You can get complete trailing bogies and the parts to make a motor bogie.  alternatives are Hornby Class 73 bogies but they have moulded-on sandboxes.

Cheers

Thanks Darius,

can i ask you, do you stick the bogie sides onto the drive bogie or how is it done?

Hi Pat,

The Hornby sideframes were cut from the Hornby bogie frame and super glued to the clip-in Bachmann bogie frame (which has its own side frames cut away.

Plasticard strengthener spacers shaped to fit (the white plastic in the photos below) were glued in place above the Bachmann frame.

I have another unit to make and will use a complete Hornby VEP power bogie avoid the above cutting and shutting.  This will be mounted in a plasticard “inverted U frame” as per my recent MTK unit builds.

Cheers
