Durrington Central. A fictional town somewhere in The North West of England (more than just a station).

Very nice Pete, lots of different scenery snippets in a (relatively) small space. It’s coming along nicely!

Jack.

Thanks Jack.  It helps that I can finally run trains end to end on both tracks and so far not had many issues with locos or stock misbehaving.  Although the 56 throws a rear bogie off a set of points but the 50 and 60 do not.

Maybe a locomotive weight issue??  The 50 and 60 are quite heavy and are recent models where as the 56 is a older chassis.  Other than this 1 issue the 56 runs like a dream.

Good evening.  I have not done much on the layout recently but today I gave Freightliner 70006 a run around the completed track and ran fine with no problems.  Here are a few photos off the proper camera.

An excellent set of photos Pete, you’ve captured a great sense of depth in a narrow space...particularly the shots you can get from low down 'on the beach'. Rapid progress as well! :senile:

Jack many thanks for your comments regarding the recent photos.  I quite agree with your point about the depth in a narrow space.  It is a 2ft shelf basically all the way around and I suppose 2 tracks with ballast takes up around 6 inches so not much left to play with I suppose!  It should look better once I get a backboard up behind the beach scene.

Good evening everyone.  I have not done much on the layout recently.  I have built another Metcalfe low relief mill for the corner of the layout.  This adds some height to the back corner of the layout.20201102_202113.jpg.4d225f267820861d3dc9e2a57a3831b6.jpg

I have also made another Metcalfe low relief cinema and printed out some different signs to make it look more like buildings you get on a seaside promenade.

So we have Pot Luck Amusements, Sea View Hotel and a Chippy.  My kids have suggested more ideas for the next kit, a pub, a souvenir/rock shop and a haunted house attraction!  I will see what I can do!

Formed a banking in the area photographed below with some MDF formers, plaster bandage and a thin layer of poly filler on top.  Once dry I will paint and then start the concrete yard for the businesses who back onto the railway line.

Over the weekend another Metcalfe low relief shops kit arrived so I have been building them.  Now I have sussed how to make boxes to size on Microsoft word  I can make my own shop signs and interiors.  Below are the photos of the seaside shops that will be on my little promenade.

The banking I made in my last post has finally dried so I've given it a coat of brown so no white poly filler shows through.  Scatter, grass and vegetation to follow.

Good evening.  The banking I've been working on has a 1st coat of static grass applied and some ballast by the side of the track.  I need to cut and glue some 4mm cork between the tracks and ballast the middle and the edge of the other track.

I've installed some security fencing to segregate the different buildings on the other side of the canal.

Great video Pete, showing the variety of scenes you’ve got on the layout...lots of angles to get different photos or videos.

The beach scene is superb going up the hill away from the coast - excellent! :good:

Thanks,

Jack.

Thanks for taking the time to watch.  Much appreciated.  I am hoping to swap out my DCC decoder for TTS sound decoders over time.  With Christmas approaching I am hanging off from buying things as Santa might bring me some stuff off the family!

Good evening.  I have finally received my Hornby GBRf 50049 DEFIANCE from Hattons as it came into stock at the weekend.  I've given it a run tonight although it has a TTS sound class 31 chip in it as that's all I have spare!

Runs really well but I can't see these snow ploughs lasting long!

I did also have 50007 on order but due to finances, the fact that I am worried about double heading and that it's exactly the same loco bar the number for another £170, I have cancelled it.20201210220351_IMG_1526.JPG.7d776bd4b355b061ee954e4134cd37b9.JPG20201210222331_IMG_1534.JPG.6d08ff6608c8557ae3c22b21ade9c1da.JPG20201210221916_IMG_1532.JPG.0cf2cf3d3fd139b55b42142b14ca275b.JPG20201210221113_IMG_1530.JPG.6498c34197f8676e60420dfc659310da.JPG20201210223937_IMG_1539.JPG.0536dfbde84d5644e569018cb37d7bfd.JPG20201210223234_IMG_1536.JPG.8f0c574a9908205c9d231726ecfc6a95.JPG

Merry Christmas everyone.  I have a new Hornby KFA intermodal wagon from the missus and kids for Christmas.20201225_154750.jpg.f75270f3d55d727e76474e936d58fd3b.jpg

They also got me the Bachmann scenecraft portable offices.

20201225_155015.jpg.ce0ca1b5305d13bf19ef90efe947a4b1.jpg

At one time this area was causing me some problems and I didn't know what to do with it but now it looks like it's going to be a nice little Network Rail compound.

I also got a Hornby TTS sound decoder for a class 66 so I have fitted it and give it a run around the layout this afternoon.  Here is a quick video

Hopefully I can get to a local model shop for some scenic items to continue with the layout.

I have installed the palisade fencing along the railway and have 2 cut outs in the footpath, one will be a bus stop and one a taxi rank.  I have ordered some adhesive road markings online and hopefully they will do a decent job.20201229_161237.jpg.bb59d90b866a73788614255eeebfb435.jpg

In between all the eating and drinking of Christmas I have extended the sea wall which you can't really see in the photo below.  I have this Metcalfe school that I am going to use as a boat/sailing club.  There is a ramp behind the building which gives access to the beach for vehicles, trailers and boats.  I will take a better photo of this when it's been polyfillered and covered with sand.

Good evening I went to my local(ish) model shop today but didn't manage to get everything I hoped to get.  Only managed 1 hour on the layout tonight but I am quite happy with this Peco flexible post and rail fencing.  Now i can add more bushes along the fence on the railway side as that side would be more overgrown.

20201230_174739.jpg.589c9a5322f9b5d58034d8040b1bd1d4.jpg20201230_174838.jpg.844019e7f08214c6c981f76a609737e8.jpg

Its mad how just adding the slightest addition to an area transforms it.  Hopefully I can get more fencing done tomorrow as well as other things.  It is so cold at the moment I can only do a short time in the garage before my fingers turn blue!!

I've been doing a bit of work on the sea wall over the last few days.  Today I have covered the polyfiller with glue then sprinkled some fish tank gravel, fish tank sand and children's play sand over it.  Hopefully it dries ok.  20210102_161109.jpg.a01615180cf6308bf88d7851f7db092d.jpg

The building in the bottom right corner of the photo is the Metcalfe school which I am going to use as a boat/sailing club/cafe.  There is a ramp for vehicles and trailers to take boats, canoes etc down to the beach.  This building will effectively end the seaside scene.

Below is another view.

The Direct Rail Services 37 is in the aggregate Sidings.  I've run out of Superquick grey sandstone sheets but have some on order to carry on.  I have 2 sidings that serve the aggregate Terminal, one is served by the loading tower.

Good evening.  Finally 4 bags of Javis dark green lichen has arrived so I have chopped it finely and glued it to the rock face along with a few other vegetation products.  Still needs more in areas.  Some Metcalfe tarmac sheets have arrived so I can carry on with the little promenade by the sea.  I have an idea in my head about a road dropping down to the promenade as if it is a little bay with the retaining wall for the road running behind the railway line.  I will have to see if I can pull it off.  Hope it will add so some variation in height and terrain.

With the backboard removed for access I have been working on the corner of the seaside area.  I do not have enough room to do a road dropping down to the prom so I am just doing a footpath.  In the days to come hopefully you will see what i am trying to achieve.

Below is a photo of work done so far.

Good evening.  A little bit more has been done on the seaside prom after I got home from work.  Road needs markings, footpaths nearly done as the curb stones need adding in the 1st photo.  In the 2nd photo you can see a path going up the incline.  I need another building or two to make into more sea front type businesses that will finish off the row nicely.  Still loads of ballasting to do and I will place some vegetation between the ballast and retaining wall where footpath is raising up.

Might get a little bit more done tomorrow after work.
