Durrington Central. A fictional town somewhere in The North West of England (more than just a station).

Good evening everyone.  Tonight I had a hour or so in the garage on the layout and was joined by my son Ollie.  We were busy positioning some scenic items in certain areas of the layout.20211115_201229.jpg.7295b4b75199b5402d4cc8cb361c67dc.jpg

In this area we put extra pieces of cut up plastic items on the floor by the skips  and put some items on some blue euro pallets that we painted and glued together.  This is generally a neglected industrial area of town!

20211115_201344.jpg.3e142361be128e66a822ed2c95e3cf6e.jpg

Here we added a couple of blue euro pallets and some oil drums.

20211115_201437.jpg.ab8b9277cbe64df53e20ea8d04402a6b.jpg

At the Finning Cat depot we added some workers, parts crates as a Caterpillar 775 dump truck is being prepped.20211115_201614.jpg.9483f0bb24c7a2824e52c8c6defe0138.jpg

Inside the workshop the engineers are busy working away.

And that's it for tonight.  Only little jobs but makes a big difference I think.

Good morning.  Yesterday I spent some time just generally tidying up the layout due to hosting a 3 hour running session on Sunday.  I cut some boards and painted them black to get rid of bare wood and gaps.

Below are a few overall views of the layout.

 20211126_074851.jpg.483bcae322608b2b2dfdb7e984e7d2b1.jpg20211126_074915.jpg.8848c6e40e79b62e10f3e61ff551474e.jpg

Looks neater and tidier now.

I also bit the bullet and tried some road markings.  I did buy a sheet of road marking transfers but didn't like them.

20211126_074803.jpg.513cc4d42a6f26bf77249b625b226585.jpg

Makes a hell of a difference and hopefully when I do the give way markings and put up some road signs things will look even better.

Watch out for a video from Sundays running session!

Thanks

Peter

Good evening I hope you have all had a great Christmas.

Some children enjoy a donkey ride at the seaside.

Following the visit of Father Christmas I have now completed my rake of BR blue mk2 coaches and rake of maroon coaches.  I have also completed my container rake after getting a Hornby KFA ONE branding wagon.

Good evening.  Please do not feed the seagulls as they are causing havoc amongst the day trippers and holiday makers at Durrington!

The light engine DRS 37405 was to collect a rake of BR blue/grey mk2 coaches for a rail tour.20220106201002_IMG_6073.jpg.69db58dd8d343da2d18ff5cea0ae009e.jpg

I've got scenic items and accessories on order to add more details here and there so as they arrive I will take photos of the scenes.

Good evening everyone.  Here are a few photos off my phone from today.  A pack of Woodland Scenics dark green lichen arrived today and as expected there was some nice big chunky pieces inside so this was glued to the backboard with some security fencing fitted in front of it and the wagon loading tower in front of that.20220108_205933.jpg.51a4e17ced9c627b78af5e7cf37ffcf9.jpg

Also delivered today were some Woodland Scenics tree armatures and some fine leaf foliage so I set about making more trees.  I got some Hob E Tac glue which is recommended but to be honest I prefer using spray glue in an aerosol can.  Not only does it stick better and qry quicker but it hangs on the tree armatures and make them more grey/brown and less plastic looking.  When you take off the foliage you are sometimes left with "twigs" so I snapped them and threw them amongst the trees and it actually looks very effective!

Finally someone had the drone up this afternoon and took this photo.

20220108_212011.jpg.c47cc543f26e2e7f7c53b8b7ef4d6fcb.jpg

I am still waiting for a Scale Model Scenary quayside steps which I am hoping to make into access steps to the signal box on the bank.

I am also hoping to fit a barrow crossing and Peco flexible fencing where train spotters/photographers congregate.  Another idea I have is to get the Hornby green footbridge and put it from the seawall over to the path going up past the tiger enclosure.

Also on order are some gravestones to add more detail to the church area.

I really liked the seagulls off eBay which are causing absolute havoc so I've ordered another pack.

Thanks for looking, much appreciated.

Good afternoon.  After placing a few trees just by the farm yesterday and throwing down some snapped fine leaf foliage twigs I had an idea to also put down some grated blue crayon to make bluebells.

There was  a few photographers out this morning.

20220109135251_IMG_6079.jpg.b50db62c9933a6efe2f6062df40cfd9e.jpg

I think they were out for this!

20220109134052_IMG_6075.jpg.1656c5470cf85042f71d6d0fa7ea34fd.jpg20220109134950_IMG_6078.jpg.588841a4efaa174220c3105770c0cb9f.jpg

I've ordered another box of Woodland Scenics Fine Leaf Foliage as I could do with a few more trees here.

Up until yesterday this area was pretty bland but purely by fluke I've transformed it and I am really happy with it.

This scenery is just fantastic! Really inspiring stuff mate. Lots of green makes for a pleasing set of photos!

Thats very kind of you to say Jack.  It has certainly brought a new aspect of scenary.  I didn't think I would have Bluebell Wood this time last week.  I just have to be careful I don't overdo it as this rises to form the cliff edge at the seaside.

Good afternoon.  Some lazer cut wooden barrow crossing kits arrived today so I've been busy fitting them and then fencing them off.  I had to cut out some ballast with a stanley knife to make them fit nicely.  There is a gate at each end of the crossing and a gate for the signal man to gain access to the signal box compound.20220111_143325.jpg.62179543b6ab9da3c0f2e0ed2e7a7625.jpg20220111_144533.jpg.92abe43bcaa80a66f73dc70d7b911f50.jpg20220111_144510.jpg.fa6320f54f23385c345708cc4f63b8a5.jpg

It gives a means of access to the signal box from the occupation Bridge for the signal man.  It's also a public footpath and right of way from one side of the line to the other so train spotters and photographers may well be seen in this location in the future!

The crossings were tested by my GBRF 50049 DEFIANCE because if those snow plough can pass over the foot crossing anything should be able to!

I am hoping to get another semaphore signal which will be still in use but the  crossover it protected from the sidings was removed on a engineering job a few years ago.  That's my excuse for having the signal anyway!

I also need to make some "W" whistle signs for trains approaching in either direction and add more vegetation now the fencing is done.

Thanks for looking!

Good afternoon everyone.  One thing I have been meaning to do for a while is make the back board behind the seawall scene to be  removable quickly as there are some new angles to be had for photography and future videos.

So having discussed this with Jack Taylor yesterday I have carried out this task today.  The board can now be quickly slid out and back in within a few seconds.

Below are some photos of the new view.

Having that board being removable has made for some great new shots and angles. Looking forward to more.

Good evening everyone.  Hope you are all well.  Apologies for no posts for a very long time.  Sad to announce that unfortunately DR Beeching has decided that this railway line is to close in the future  However, nothing quite gets you back on the layout like a new purchase.

Managed to win a Hornby Colas Rail class 56 DCC sound on Ebay.  The sound doesn't quite have the scream of a Grid but still OK.

Here are some photos of it on The Scarborough Spa Express.
