Seeking Photos of Parcels Vans c1960 between Reading, Maidenhead, High Wycombe and Aylesbury

Hi All,

To accurately portray some trains on my 00 model of the High Wycombe Branch and Relief Lines west of Maidenhead, I am seeking pictures of the parcels vans on the 0540 Reading to Princes Risborough parcels train, their onward moves to Aylesbury during the morning, and their returns in ones and twos attached to the afternoon Aylesbury/High Wycombe to Maidenhead/Slough/Paddington passenger trains.

Most of the vans finished their day on the 2010 Maidenhead to Reading Parcels and then some went further on long distance Parcels trains from Paddington to reach locations such as Didcot and Chippenham.

I would appreciate information on where such photos may be found.

I have many books on the WR Main Line out of Paddington and particularly on the Slough/Maidenhead/Reading area and Trains Illustrated 1960-3, so it is the more obscure sources rather than the obvious one I am looking for.

Many thanks, take care,

Best regards

Paul

Following my previous post, I attach some pictures.   There are a lot more knowledgeable people on this topic than me, but I think I am right in saying that parcels vehicles were common user after 1948,  so you could expect to see, and did see, all sorts on parcels trains.

The following pictures were all taken about 1961 to 1962 in the London area.  There is only one of a parcels train on the line you are particularly interested in, at Bourne End.

The vehicles comprise BR GUV's, both long and short, SR utility vans, again, long and 4 wheel;  siphon G's, internal framed  (external framed were a bit scarce by then in my recollection), Gresley full brakes,  LMS 50ft full brakes, Hawksworth full brakes;  Churchward full brakes; Collet full brakes; BR Mk 1 full brakes;  Fruit D's; fitted goods vans;  an old LMS brake 3rd.

I also have records of  LMS Luggage and Parcel Van ( to D1870, ie 42ft Parcel Utility Vehicle) and LMS CCT vans.

I think all of these are commercially available, so no need to kit build!

I also think that you could pretty much put any sort of parcels van in a train of that time, so long as the livery matches the period.   Most newer vehicles, and those used in passenger trains were often shiny maroon.  The rest were grime colour!IMG_3724.jpg.1ad921916565e1703c70207d51f53e7b.jpgIMG_3718.jpg.a21ffac6d1f3e343b7c3adac9d304d4c.jpgIMG_3719.jpg.3aaceed8b87e755105cc7dd49a993d1e.jpgIMG_3720.jpg.8c7763012712365ba2e49f8d2f0ae1f9.jpgIMG_3721.jpg.ddab85422dcb58ac2a0382ec3539f061.jpgIMG_3723.jpg.194c5a10e1a2c27689c8d56b5853394f.jpgIMG_3724.jpg.1ad921916565e1703c70207d51f53e7b.jpg

Do you have a copy of the Middleton Press album Branch Lines To Henley Windsor And Marlow?

I have no idea if there are any photos of the required service within its pages, but it might be a good starting point.
