RMweb Gold TravisM Posted May 19, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 19, 2020 Registered my interest and I’ve heard from a friend who still working on the railways, he is under the impression that it will emerge from the paint shop in IC Swallow livery.
No Decorum
Great news & well done, Rails! If this is a success, we might start to get some early AC electrics.

Port Carlisle
Swallow badger for me! Loved this loco since seeing it at Donny on the evening Kings Cross-Leeds train as a young lad in the late 80's. 1

I would not judge it too closely from its current colour. It was that colour when I saw it last summer at Barrow Hill so is not necessarily a new layer of undercoat. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted May 20, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 20, 2020 Is this now the longest lived one off in service? It’s been on and off in service for 33 years now (not counting 86 as it was on test) I’ve gone for the original Swallow
298
Anyone wanting a model of it "as is" could make do with one of the resin bodies that'll invariably clog up eBay now and a dud Lima chassis, job done. 2

RMweb Premium 7013 Posted May 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 21, 2020 I have one electric loco, the will fated DJM Electric. I really have little interest in electric locos I have no OHL on my layout and I run mainly China Clay trains. All that said I love iconic British locos and this is a real icon that will find a place in my collection and I my even fit OHL on my layout and, I think it is a wonderful loco. The prototype really needs some TLC and to be brought back to life.

RMweb Premium ColinK Posted May 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 21, 2020 Perhaps there should be a unpowered option for those like me who don’t have overhead and have no reason to get one, so we can tow one around behind a diesel?
