Guest Jack Benson
Vauxhall_Down_Milk_empties_geograph-2655977-by-Ben-Brooksbank © Copyright and licensed for reuse under this Creative Commons Licence The rebuilt exLSWR T14 4-6-0 seems to be a consitent 'wanted' item in 4mm unfortunately the loco is not best served with kits or RTR. Less said about the Jidenco/Falcon Brass whilst it is rumoured that the moulds for the NuCast kit have not fared well and could be beyond redemption. One glimmer of hope is Mr Ascough at Ace Models, who offer a 7mm version but are willing to consider a limited run of 4mm kits if a minimum of six orders are placed. No idea of costs, lead times etc, just a conversation with William at Ace. Please note that, I have no connection with any commercial aspect of this other than as a potential purchaser of a kit. The model is the Ace Models 7mm version. Cheers and Stay Safe
RMweb Premium 30368 Posted May 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 21, 2020 Thanks Jack. As we have discussed, I would certainly purchase a 4mm kit. Will contact directly. Kind regards, Richard B
RMweb Premium 30368 Posted May 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 21, 2020 Jack, Have emailed Ace Products and put my name down for a 4mm T14 kit. By the way, lovely picture of 443 in full flight as an opera soprano! Kind regards, Richard B
Nicktoix
You might be as well to get the opinion of someone who has built this in 7mm. Ace kits come from various original manufacturers and vary considerably in their quality from acceptable to impossible. Nick 1
Guest Jack Benson
Hi Nick, Point taken, will proceed with care. There are two potential buyers of the kit, four more are needed, it should be interesting. They were impressive, if only in appearance, my late father captured one passing Boscombe with a van train, it looked rather like an opera singer about to burst forth with an aria. Guest Jack Benson
Hi, Addressing the concerns of a building a kit of a large, rather complicated locomotive with idiosyncratic valve gear, just wondering if a smaller locomotive might be a viable alternative? AFAIK, the exLSWR S11 has never been available in 4mm, even from Jidenco/Falcon Brass, might this be more acceptable albeit less imposing. The S11 was designed for the West Country, its 6’1” wheels would be better suited to the South Western switchback than the T9, unfortunately they did not prove to be much better than the T9 and enginemen preferred the Greyhound. They spent their lives on South Western metals, doing excellent wonk on secondary services and routes, finally, caught up in the mid 50s withdrawl of minor classes, none survived. There are potential solutions, a set of 4mm etches derived from Ace Product’s 7mm kit seems to be one, if sufficient confirmed orders can be generated and I have no commercial interest other than as a potential customer, no interest in ‘crowdfunding’ or any other initiative. image courtesy of Railscene, many thanks.
