Really? Any more info on this?

Not a great deal of information around. It was mentioned in the magazines at the time though.

Northwich 1980 whilst locomotives were being kept prior to Rocket 150. Open day with all the locomotives in steam having arrived by rail.

They did a few posed photos of it on the ICI hoppers. Then the shed staff decided to start using it. The photo here has a diesel, but on some trains it didn't. I think they did it for a few days until BR told them to stop.

Here's one with a Class 25.

Careful as a few sources say it was an 8F, it wasn't. It was 5000.

In 1985, as part of the GW150 shennanigans, 9466 spent a week at Radyr prior to appearing at Cathays Workshop open days on a weekend.  It was used for the daily Radyr-Cathays trip several times and a halt not called until, in order to deliver a wagon the correct way around it was routed via the Quarry (City Line) and through Cardiff Central and Queen Street.

I was in those days a member of a model railway club that exhibited at this event, and had a chance to put a round of coal in the firebox of Iron Duke on the Friday evening as we were setting up; the loco was being driven back and forth along a length of broad gauge track about 50 yards long.  5643 was also there, though not in steam, and CoT turned up for the weekend.  Happy days!

What did the train engine appear on TOPS as? 98466 presumably?
