aureol40012
Hi guys (and gals), Has anyone tried using a Hornby Ruston match truck with its extra pick ups with a Bachmann 03 to aid running qualities? I’ve got a sound 03 and as my layout is a garden one my track is rarely pristine. Virtually every other loco handles this, apart from my 03. I’m thinking about buying the Ruston, selling the “loco” on and adapting the match truck to run wired to my 03.

I did exactly that many years ago with a Mainline 03. I still have the wagon, potentially of use with later Bachmann 03 models.
Butler Henderson
Having four of the latest 03s I have not noticed any running problems - are all the pick ups correctly aligned.
DCB
An old Triang metal frame wagon chassis, the two part one, with Bachmann split axle wheels and a Hornby shunters truck body does a good job with very little drag. I would fit pickups between rear driving wheels and the chassis on the 03 first before adding a match truck. It transformed mine. I think some places 03s had to run with a match truck as they didn't operate the track circuits.
