Signal positions

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

On my layout, I have got quite a complex trackplan, and I have absolutely no idea where to put any signals.

I only know where to put three of my 5 signals tha I have in my collection. I have 3 home signals, one double home signal, and a distant signal. Does anyone have any ideas of where I could put them on the layout?

Many thanks. :)

That's OK, you can always go back in time to visit the real place whenever you want.

Mind you, the Doctor might take you to some interesting places on the way!

The distant would have to go on the main line to give advance warning of a non existent signal further down the line. One of the home signals is needed to protect the level crossing and the point from the lower branch also needs protection.

Being GWR, the goods line signals should be ringed.

Proper signals clear down not up....  :)   (Even here in Italy.)

Thank you very much for your response.

When you say the goods line signals should be ringed, what do you mean by that?

Also, apologies for the crudeness of the trackplan.

Many thanks. :)

Just an idea, if you need a bit more detail you could consider posting your question on the signalling forum. I did a few months back and got amazing informative advice.

I made a ring for a GWR signal from one of the reinforcing rings for  sheets in notebooks. My effort was a bit rough (It was a long time ago - a first series Ratio signal!), but more care (and decent nail scissors) would produce a good result.
