I need to add your details into a spreadsheet so you can either email me (the Journal Editor's address is on the SLS website contacts page) or PM me via here. I am assuming you don't want to post it openly.

7th International Early Railways Conference (Now virtual)

Due to COVID -19 this conference, which was due to take place at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea, is being replaced by an International ‘virtual’ conference on the same dates (10-13 June 2021). The conference will therefore be held using the Microsoft ‘Teams’ facility, hosted by the National Railway Museum, York. The issue of different time zones is recognised and options to overcome this are being considered by the ER7 organising committee.

The conference, conducted in English, will be in the same format as the previously successful Early Railways Conferences and Early Main Line Railways Conferences. These two themes will, henceforth, be combined under the International Early Railways Conference title covering the earliest waggonway systems through to main line and industrial systems worldwide, in the development era up to the 1870s.

Further updates will follow as the specific details are finalised

With now only a month to go a reminder that bookings are still open - https://rchs.org.uk/early-railways-conference-combined/  Software to be used revised to the Airmeet solution, as below, allowing social interaction between groups of delegates between the sessions.

The papers presented will be recorded and available for paid up delegates for a period post the conference. This has the following advantages:-

  • time shifting for people in different time-zones, you only have to be live if you wish to participate in the session's Q&A.
  • no-one has to sit through the three full days of screen watching unless, as above, they wish to be in the Q&A sessions.

Technical details:- The host will be Firefly Audio Visual Solutions Ltd. of Hunslet in Leeds, on behalf of the National Railway Museum, using its Airmeet seminar facility.  Delegates wishing to participate in the conference should ensure that they will be using computers with the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox; computers fitted with cameras and microphones will allow delegates to participate fully with the proceedings.  Broadband speeds should be 10 Mbps for good reception, to avoid occasional transmission interruptions.

We have just concluded the Early Railways 7 conference. Hoping all those who attended felt it was a good event. Certainly the organising committee felt it went well. It was held as a virtual one this time around. As one of the organisers (The SLS are a sponsor) we thank all who have participated, and especially the IT event organising/ facilitating team at Firefly.

As the sessions will be on YouTube (signed up subscriber access only) for a month not too late to still sign up!! Subscribers will also get a hefty discount on the proceedings book in due course.

Next events in the Conference Serial -

ER8 - 2023 (Tentative and provisional)

ER8 or 9 - 2025 Darlington.
